In an email sent yesterday to Singing News subscribers and fans, Jim Cumbee and Jerry Kirksey assured the fans that they can continue to look forward to features of the past and honoring artists that are loved as well as introducing new artists. The Singing News will continue to operate with a staff in Boone, NC as well as an office in Nashville, TN. They guaranteed that they will begin to offer at least 15% more content in the coming months.

They stated, "We believe it most important to reinforce why we do what we do. We love Southern Gospel Music for many reasons, but in the final analysis, what we love most about Southern Gospel Music is that its lyrics are Biblically-based and point us straight to Jesus Christ ... His birth, His life, His death on Calvary, His resurrection and His promise to us for an eternal home in Heaven with Him. That is what the Singing News Magazine has been about since its founding in 1969, and that is what it will continue to be. To adapt a favorite phrase from the late great J.D. Sumner ... WE CAN"T WAIT!!!!"

Well I hope they offer more content. I have veen a subscriber to the Singing News for several years and I have been considering doing away with my subscription becuase it seems that all the magazine has to offer is ads. There are very little interesting articles and when you do find a good article, it is few and far between. I hope that Jim Cumbee brings a little better publishing sense to the magazine than Maurice Templeton and Jerry Kirksey have over the last few years.

I have to agree with Terrill White's post. I dropped my subscription to the Singing News awhile back because I became disgusted with it's content. While I understand politics as it applies to Southern Gospel Music, I get extremely tired of this magazine primarily catering to "top" groups, the groups who advertise with them or who have members on the NQC board. I am not involved as a singer or musician in SGM. I am however, a life-long fan.
It would be awesome if the new owners of Singing News allowed more coverage of regional groups as well as full-time groups other than those riding high in the top 40 charts.

"..what we LOVE MOST about Southern Gospel Music (OK, here we go) is that its lyrics are Biblically-based and point us straight to Jesus Christ ... His birth, His life, His death on Calvary, His resurrection and His promise to us for an eternal home in Heaven with Him."
    Yeah.
Will you folks quit beating this dead horse to the ground already? You sound too much like some of these cheezy insincere Gospel groups!
Let's get to the real issue: we want to appeal to our readers so we can sell more subscriptions, because we are losing money like a banshee!
    'Nuff said.

Tony Trout's avatar One thing I would like to see them change (n regards to the website)is the "News" section and do away with having to be a subscriber to Singing News just to read the "News" section of the site. I think that's ridiculous!

If you have an e-mail list, I would like to be included on it. I would also like to know when any Southern
gospel groups are coming into our area.
    Thank you very much.
