CHAPMANVILLE, WV — The management of the Singing News Magazine, “The Printed Voice Of Southern Gospel Music,” recently signed a book deal with Woodland Gospel Publishing to document the organization's history.

Woodland Gospel announced this week that the writer chosen for this project is Mike Collins, author of Hold On: The Authorized Biography of The Greenes.

In preparation for the book, Collins recently interviewed several members of the Singing News team, including Maurice Templeton, Jerry Kirksey, Ken Kirksey and Danny Jones.

“It is such an honor to be involved with this project,” Collins stated. “This magazine has quite a history that has coincided with the growth of Southern Gospel music through the years.”

This hardbound volume is expected to be available later in 2005. The project will be an intimate biographical and pictorial account of the magazine, which was originated by J. G. Whitfield in 1969 as a promotional vehicle for his own Gospel Music promotions.

According to Tim Fortune, a representative of Woodland Gospel, the magazine, which has been synonymous with traditional Gospel Music for many decades, has an inspiring and fascinating story to tell.

Woodland Gospel, which published the popular Hold On: The Authorized Biography of The Greenes, will soon be releasing the biography of the Hoppers, authored by Woodland Gospel co-founder Keith Davis.

For more information on this project, call Woodland Gospel Publishing at (304) 752-7500, or write, Woodland Press, LLC, 118 Woodland Drive, Suite 1101-1, Chapmanville, WV 25508.

This is the same fellow who wrote the Greene's book, so I figure it will be really great. Collins seems too have knack for "cuttin' to the chase" and being sensitive to people's feelings. The Singing News has been around for a long time. I'm sure they have stories to tell.

    Sincerely, Jim Coven
