Gaithernet.com announced today that Marshall Hall will be joining the Gaither Vocal Band as the new Baritone. Hall will be replacing Russ Taff who recently announced his departure from the band. Hall made his first appearance on the Homecoming Video Series five years ago during a solo performance at a Memphis Homecoming. He will begin his first official weekend this weekend in Homecoming in Carbondale, Illinois, and Jackson, MS. Hall will also be available on GaitherNet during a live chat on Tuesday, March 9 at 8:30 p.m. Eastern / 7:30 Central!

great replacement baritone for GVB. will be a wonderful asset to group

Marshall Hall ROCKS! His addition will definitely kick it up to the next level for the GVB. I believe more young people will be coming out to hear this lineup sing.

I really was Hoping to see Wesley Pritchard with GVB. But Congradulations to Marshall Hall

I agree with Brian. I think David and Marshall can add flare to the group and I think they will appeal to the younger audience. I know because I'm 19 myself and I like what Phelps adds to the GVB and I cant wait to hear Marshall with the group. Dare I ask if Gaither is going a bit contemporary???? JUST KIDDING. I know what that "c" word does to people here at this web site. Anyway, Congrats to Marshall and I cant wait to hear him with the group in November!

From what I've seen in the picture he certainly will fit the image Bill is trying to portray...contemporary !!
-
Unfortunely the contemporary image will in the long run hurt the Gaither Band and Homecoming. The last time in St Louis, different people commented it sure wasn't the same and they probably would not attend again.
-
For every person that said they wouldn't attend again, you can probably find just as many, if not more, who will continue attending. Plus they will continue bringing in new listeners. I don't care what style of music the Vocal Band puts out, they're singing for the Lord and they have awesome voices. Looking forward to a new GVB project.

I thought like others the choice would be Wesley Pritchard--he would have been an outstanding choice. I haven't heard enough of Marshall Hall to make a comment on his voice, but Gaither must feel that he can blend well in their sound and that he has the range to sing under Phelps and Penrod--a must for any GVB baritone. I don't think this is a move to contemporary for GVB--they know where their bread is buttered and that is in Southern Gospel. I'll reserve further comment until I get to hear them live or if they record anything with him soon.

I was hoping for Wesley but hope Marsh works out well. I love the Vocal Band but I too am concerned that this is leaning more to contemporary. I am true Southern Gospel like ome contemporary but my first love is SGM. The dress is leaning more toward contemporary in my opinion. This just reflects how I feel, don't want to ruffle any feathers.

Wish I'd placed a bet on this, I sure would have cashed in big time!!
(check out my prediction on the "GVB baritone announces departure" thread).
Love that guy's voice (talking 'bout Marshall Hall and not Guy, love him too, though) .
Listen to Marshall sing "Worthy is the Lamb" , and then you'll know he's a great addition to the group!
Marshall congrats !!!
Whooooo!!! I'm a happy camper lol hahahha!!
