Booth Brothers and Crabb Family the Night’s Big Winners

MURFREESBORO, Tenn. – The 2006 SGN Awards were handed out last night at a special concert celebration in Smyrna, Tennessee. The Booth Brothers were this year’s big winner, winning a record setting eight awards, including Song of the Year (“He Saw It All”), Album of the Year (The Blind Man Saw It All), Male Group of the Year, Traditional Southern Song of the Year (“He Saw It All”), and Fan Favorite Artist of the Year. Lead vocalist Ronnie Booth was awarded the coveted Male Vocalist of the Year, and Jim Brady was awarded Songwriter of the Year (Artist). The Booth Brothers were also given the Pacesetter Award – the evening’s biggest award that honors any artist, song, album, individual, company, etc. that raised the standard in the industry for the previous year.

The Crabb Family was awarded three awards last night. The group was given its fourth consecutive Mixed Group of the Year honor, as well as awards in the categories of Special Event Project of the Year (for Live At Brooklyn Tabernacle) and Best Live Performer.

Several artists and individuals were awarded two Ovations during the awards program, including the Collingsworth Family who won Breakthrough Artist of the Year and Musician of the Year (for Kim Collingsworth). Ernie Haase & Signature Sound received Ovations in the categories of Traditional Southern Album of the Year (Ernie Haase & Signature Sound) and Progressive Southern Song of the Year (“Do You Want to Be Forgiven?”). Gold City tied with Ernie Haase & Signature Sound in the category of Traditional Southern Album of the Year (for Heaven), while group member Daniel Riley won his third consecutive Producer of the Year (Artist) award. Doug Riley posthumously won two awards as well, including winning Producer of the Year (Artist) with his brother Daniel and Traditional Southern Album of the Year for producing Gold City’s Heaven. Songwriter Daryl Mosley won two SGN Music Awards for writing the Song of the Year and Traditional Song of the Year “He Saw It All”. Producer Phil Johnson was awarded two Ovations for his production work in the categories of Album of the Year (The Blind Man Saw It All) and Progressive Southern Album of the Year (for Karen Peck & New River’s Good To Be Free).

The event was hosted by singer/songwriter/comedienne Sondra Burnett and Chris D. Unthank, Chart & Awards Coordinator for SouthernGospelNews.com and co-owner of SSE Group. The evening featured knock-out performances from the Crabb Family, the Isaacs, the Booth Brothers, Lauren Talley, Karen Peck & New River, the McRaes, Charlotte Ritchie, Hope’s Call, the Ruppes, The Imperials, Gordon Mote, the Collingsworth Family, and host Sondra Burnett.

“We thought that our first year would be hard to top, but the 2006 SGN Music Awards Celebration blew last year’s awards ceremony out of the water,” said Deon Unthank, owner of SouthernGospelNews.com. “All of the performers were fantastic and the evening was just very relaxed and ministry oriented. We couldn’t have asked for a better Awards Celebration.”

The SGN Music Awards are an annual award handed out each year by the staff at SouthernGospelNews.com. Each January, the staff decides upon the nominees in over twenty categories. In February of that year, the readers of the site are then allowed to vote for their favorites. This is the fourth year the awards have been in existence, but it is the first year for an awards ceremony.

The official sponsors for the 2008 SGN Music Awards Celebration were Bev McCann (Loan Officer for American Home Mortgage), H&B Builders, and Bev McCann Ministries.

Congrats to the Collingsworth Family!! As well as the Booth Brothers!! The Collingsworth family holds such grace and perfessionalism in all they do. Where has this family been? Keep up the great work.

I have LOVED the Booth Brothers for years now. Congratulations! I agree that they are the BEST. It's time they were recognized as being at THE TOP of SGM. It is also interesting to me that one of your columnist's advice is proving true. Nick Bruno continually advises new groups to learn how to improve in all areas. As far as I remember, up until recently he produced all the Booth Brother's music. Maybe he deserves some congratulations also. He seems to know what he's talking about.

All of the winners of the Ovation awards were already winners in my book but a hearty congratulations to them all. I was so thrilled to see the Collingsworth Family win two most deserved awards. They are so anointed in their music ministry and I know God is going to bless them mightily. Southern Gospel Music is never going to 'die out' as some people predict; at least not as long as so many talented people dedicate their talents to the work of the Kingdom on earth. Thank you for sharing with us the special gifts with which God has blessed you. To God be the glory.

All I can say, is this, IT IS ABOUT TIME THAT THE SOUTHERN GOSPEL MUSIC WORLD TOOK NOTE OF PHIL AND KIMBERLY COLLINGSWORTH AND THEIR FAMILY !!!!!!!!!!

I have known them a number of years now, and push their music as much as I can to expand the reach of their ministry. I like to think of myself as their greatest fan but if I have to settle as greatest fan in Michigan, then that's ok too.

I am just thrilled for them on these awards, they so rightly deserve them. As a musician myself, I fully understand the amount of time and work and practice needed to achieve the level of perfection with which they seem to top themselves each time the release a new recording of video.

As far as I'm concerned, NO ONE, on the face of this earth more deserves these two awards as much as my personal friends, Phil and Kim Collingsworth and their children.

    Congrats Collingsworths,

    John Kuerth

I am thrilled for the Collingsworth Family. They are genuine through and through and well deserving of recognition. Kim on the piano cannot be surpassed.
But all the rest are fabulous assets to their entire program.
