This will not go over well, but how tacky can thy get? When I read that the family did not want live feed of the funeral because it was a private affair, but that a keepsake video would be available later, my first thought was “yeah right, privacy my foot - they just want to make money off of it”. What is next, her ashes on ebay?? Good grief, are we so enamored with humans God used that we can’t see how tacky and unsuitable it is to sell a DVD of a funeral? Send in the flames, but it is true. She was an awesome song writer, and God has and will use her songs in ways we have no idea, but to market a DVD of the funeral - that is just wrong!
What is wrong with a DVD of the funeral? It isn’t the “funeral” part that people are wanting, it’s the “celebration of a life” part. As Christians a person’s final service is so often a time for rejoicing and reflecting on the journey that person has just completed. I have many fond memories of memorial services that I wish I had on video. While I have not been to the services for a high-profile Southern Gospel performer I have watched portions of Roger Bennett’s and Anthony Burger’s and was blessed by them. I say to you, don’t watch or purchase if you so choose, but don’t castigate those who are enjoying them.
