What is your take on them? Do you like them? Do you have any, what kind? Personally I do not care for them. What about athletes that have their arms covered in them ?

cool smirk

I don’t have any, though probably if I’d been young NOW I’d have something.
What do I think abou the athletes covered in them?  Well, add women - like the gal on American Idol last season - places we can see and places we can’t.
Now speaking from a nurses’ point of view - and we see EVERYTHING - Just imagine what some of those tats will look like 40 - 50 + years down the road.!!!  Wrinkles and tats DO NOT mix!  LOL

I have heard someone say that if a woman gets a tattoo on her back and she gets pregnant that she cannot have an epidural. Is there any truth to that?

Imagine if someone gets a dollar bill tatoo and then gains weight - talk about stretching your money….......  LOL

Well, now this will be a VERY scientific answer!  LOL In watching “Baby Story” I’ve seen moms who have tats on their backs get an epidural.  Now it could be because of the placement of the tat.  If there was a whole lot of ink in the exact spot they needed to put the epidural - I’m thinking that could be a major problem and an epidural might be contra-indicated.

I guess a response could be that getting a tattoo could be considered a “poor life choice”, along with body piercings…one could also ask why one would want to mark their body with markings that were once considered the mark of slaves and pagans.

Hidee,
I have tattoos. I have always loved tattoos. In fact I remember being fascinated with the men at Church that had them when I was very small. I have wanted tattoos since I was 17 and waited until I was 43 to get my first one. I wanted to make sure I was mature enough to make the decision! <smile>! I have read the book of Leviticus, and my Daddy is a preacher. He tells me to tell people that do not like them that I live under grace and not under the Law! <smile>! The Bible tells us not to mark our body just as it tells us not to do many other things that we do consistently. I also think you must look at the context of the scriptures that deal with marking your body. I am a devout traditional fundamental Christian, attend Church every week, teach an adult Sunday School class, sing in the choir, and work in the Gospel Music Industry. I did years of research, and personally got to know my “tattoo artist” before I ever made the choice to get them.

I never wish to offend anyone with my tattoos. I have them on both legs above my ankle where I can cover them if they offend someone. I simply think they are a unique art form that permanently illustrates my interests. Sorry if you think less of me because I choose to be tattooed; however, if you take the time to get to know me, I think you probably would not think my tattoos were an example of some horrible character flaw, rash decision, or choosing to be like the world.

Thanks for listening to the other side!

I am not trying to make this a theological debate because this will get shut down but I think that there is some misinterpretation of the scripture, Leviticus 19:28, that deals with markings and tattoos (although the word tattoo doesn’t appear in the KJ STUDY BIBLE).  You have to read and study the context of the scripture (called hermeneutics – see Cliff Cerce). The verse reads “Ye shall not make any cuttings in your flesh for the dead, nor print any marks upon you : I am the Lord.” Notice the phrase “for the dead” . There’s a big difference between putting a satanic or “dead” symbol on your body as opposed to Bugs Bunny or a rose. If someone came to your church with some visible tattoos would you shun them and be judgemental or welcome them with love and fellowship? I stated earlier that I do care for them -  that was not written at all with arrogance or a holier-than-thou attitude. It is just a preference. Heck , I do not care for mayonnaise and professional sports (I am a collegiate freak). LOL  I want judge you if you have one or two unless, of course, you have a faceful or a body full of markings and piercing - then I might think you’re a little weird and scary tongue rolleye

Gayla, I appreciated and enjoyed your response.

Believe me, I would be the last to condemn life choices.  I’ve made some real “doozies” myself.  I know plenty of good, solid Christians that make the choice to have tatts, both before and after their conversion.  I am not the judge, nor do I have the right to impose my personal convictions on anyone else.

The girl admitted to lying and falsely accusing her tattoo artist ... both qualify as “doozies.”

I never understood the urge to be marked or cut but then I have a low threshold for pain. raspberry

I don’t know anyone who has a tattoo that enhanced their appearance but there surely must be one somewhere.  I managed to get through the Army without being tattooed, and at age 62, I think it’s a safe bet I will go to my grave with neither tattoo nor piercing.

Fortunately for us, we all depend upon God’s grace and Jesus’ blood and not upon anything we may (or may not) have done.

We used to call tattoos on girls “tramp stamps.”

You don’t find many women with tattoos all over them leading large buisnesses or in executive positions in Fortune 500 companies .  They may have some hidden tattoos, but at least they have enough sense to hide them.  I’m not saying tattoos are wrong or a violation of spiritual things, I just personally don’t like them on men or women.

I guess going to the tattoo parlor and picking out one of their standard prints is a way to show ones individuality.

Hidee,
No, Family Man, my tattoos are both custom. I would never choose one off the wall. You are right that shows no creativity or individuality. The long tattoos above the rear end on women are usually referred to as “tramp stamps”. I completely respect your opinion of not liking tattoos; however, I do not think it is necessary to try and “belittle” those of us who have chosen to be tattooed.

In my line of work I talk to a lot of Human Resource directors and several of us were together one day and the subject of tatoos came up. They all agreed on one thing. Tatoos can keep an individual from getting several prime jobs because most employers don’t want an employees tatoos speaking for their company. In addition, if the qualifications/personality are so similar that the candidates appear even, the applicant without the visible tatoos will be chosen most everytime.
