The Voice

Did anyone else watch _The Voice_?

I like the concept. There’s enough differences to set this apart from American Idol and America’s Got Talent. It will be interesting to see how the show progresses once all the teams are set.

If you’re not familiar with it yet, singers audition for four celebrity singers who can’t see them. If one of the celebrities turns their chair around, that singer is assigned to their team. If two or more turn around, then the singer gets to pick. If no celebrities turn around, that singer goes home.

Once there are eight acts assigned to each celebrity, each celebrity coaches their team members to improve their skills as performers.

I was surprised when no one turned around for Sonia Rao. She was about fifth or sixth. She had a nice tone…a touch nasally, but very accomplished and agile vocally. I was trying to play along by not really looking at the computer where I had the show going until after they got into their song a bit. (In fact, I’m still “not-watching” it as I type this.)

Hollywood’s Lack Of Creativity And Originality

I just posted this on Facebook:

“More proof that Hollywood has run out of ideas and has no creativity left. NBC has ordered an updated version of The Munsters. This follows the overwhelming success (sarcasm intended) of the new versions of The Bionic Woman, V, Charlie’s Angels, and The Love Boat The Next Wave. Add to that the fact that in recent years Hollywood has done re-makes of movies such as Halloween, Friday 13th, A Nightmare On Elm Street, and many others. It’s no wonder the airwaves are full of reality shows that few people watch. All of the creativity and originality has completely left Hollywood!”

How many shows and movies have had remakes in the past 20 to 30 years, either small screen or big screen? SWAT, The Fugitive, Mission Impossible, Charlie’s Angels (both small and big screens), V, The Bionic Woman, The Addams Family, and Starsky And Hutch come to mind immediately.

I have really gotten into this show over the last few months, watching most of the repeats as well as current shows, and I think it is, by far, the funniest current show on TV.

It is unique to find a show that presents intelligently written comedy, great characters, and is (compared to other comedies) clean.

In my opinion, Sheldon Cooper, played by Jim Parsons, is the second best character in the history of TV comedy.

No. 1, of course, is Barney Fife.
