Was Jesus Republican or Democrat?

As a very important election year comes upon us, I have been traveling all over the country listening to discussions in airports, boardrooms, studios, shopping malls and everywhere in between. No one seems to know what they want to do this election year. No one seems to understand the real crisis facing our Nation and world.

This brought me back to a crisis I faced as a child. I was raised with my father being a Baptist minister and my mother being Pentecostal. I always wondered which religion was the dominate one, which religion did God accept? Which one would get me the greatest answers and results in my life? As I grew older, I realized, being true to yourself and your inner calling, that's what gets you the true answers and results in your life! I have witnessed Gods healing in every denomination in the country. I have witnessed fallen heroes and pastors in every denomination across the country. So, in my Christian walk, I did exactly what God told me to do in the Bible, allow his plan of salvation in your life, and obey the Holy Spirit.

As this election year creeps upon us, I have spent time with Americans all over this country. I have listened to Republicans that were going Democrat, and I have listened to Democrats that were going Republican. I am like a sponge. I soak up everything and everyone I have the opportunity to come in contact with. I love people, and God always allows me to meet some of the greatest souls in my travels. Mind you, I don't always respect, enjoy or condone everything I hear. My mind has its own built in paper shredder. I take data in and immediately dispose of the negative and useless data. But, I retain and utilize all the positive and educational information. I guess it comes back to this question. If Jesus were here- Honestly! Would he be Baptist, Pentecost, Republican or Democrat?

I have been friends with Republican senators that were for abortion, higher taxes and welfare. And I have been friends with Democratic Senators that were against abortion, lower taxes and abolishment of the welfare system. So, I kind of feel, we voting Americans are sometimes lead by habit or media views of each party. By some standards- if your democrat you’re doomed to the opposite of heaven, you’re for abortion, you want to kill the government to pad the welfare system. If you’re Republican- you are a die hard Christian, you don't cheat, you believe in abolishing welfare and you’re totally against abortion. Now, these are not my views on the parties, this is the public and media views.

I was raised in a staunch Republican home. Die hard Republicans till this day. But, I grew up and don't allow myself to be segregated into any party. I feel today more than ever, the labeling of denominations, labeling of voting parties, labeling of people is destroying their best outcome in our reality and lives. If we do what comes natural to our habits, we may not do what's best for our soul. I seriously don't think Jesus would be standing on a corner waving a sign for any political party. I don't think Jesus would be sitting in a home church that had segregated views of other denominations. I think we must make our hearts decisions. I think we must decide what we desire in our lives, build it from our Christian soul and instinct and be the best person we can in this world.

I feel we must decide what side of the fence we are on, and wave our flags, hands and voices to make a difference. If that means raising better children, giving more of your income and time to special needs, cleaning up bad habits and ideas, siding with a person for their beliefs not their political party, then get out and make a difference. Listen to the person, not the party. Listen to your soul. Go for your inner beliefs, because I have found no matter what you are told or raised to believe, not every influence or person you meet or hear in your life, is meant to dictate your future. It takes work to find your real being and soul. Once you find it, use it. Don't be afraid to be you.

Break out of the restrictions in your life. I am not saying leave your voting party or church denomination, I am saying don't let good in others go unnoticed due to their worldly label or affiliation. Jesus didn't hear or see black or white, he didn't see poor or rich, he didn't see worthy and unworthy- HE saw us. Humans, people, sinners and He saw us one day in time, holding each other’s hands, unaffected by race, party, religion or color.

So, this year make your life the best you can. Make your choices the strongest you can, and earnestly pray for God to manage your life. Pray hard, actively seek out a political leader and do your part to change this country. We have a voice-use it.

God Bless you,

Rick Hendrix

Jesus wasn't either .. His "party" was the only one that counted .. the Kingdom of God. The Gospel was not put into the hands of the political .. it was given to those who believe. Jesus never forced His teachings on the unbelieving .. He only presented the only Solution that God agrees with .. God's will, aka His Kingdom. If we stopped wasting our time looking for political solutions and did the work of the Gospel, the world WOULD change! Halleluia anyhow!

Rick, I agree that we should be God's men and God's women and should hunger & thirst after Him and His ways. Our allegiance should be to Him no matter what labels people are using all around us. However, in the arena of political affiliation and denominational membership, one's associations often have broader brushstrokes than just what it does or doesn't do for oneself. If you are voting for Hillary, you aren't just voting for her. You are voting to swing sovereign power in this country to the left. Likewise, if you vote for McCain, you are voting to swing the pendulum to the right. This is not a political discussion, but only an objective comment. Regarding denominationalism, I think most people would agree that belonging to a New Testament church will, by default, cause you to be a member of it. So, the idea of a free-thinking, free-wheeling lifestyle without certain alliances sounds liberating, but in fact most elements of our life here in the U.S. require us to be a member of something or to cast our lot with a certain group.
