His Own Song Led Him to Christ
![]() Song: Ten Thousand Angels Reader Comments
Thanks for sharing this story. My mother sang this song many times before her death in 1994. It was my priviledge to sing it at her funeral. I never knew the story behind the song. Thanks again.

I shared the stage several times with Ray and Millie up in Michigan, when I was a member of the group, Saved By Grace. I always found Ray and Millie to be among the finest people I had ever met. Ray has another song that I love equally well as 10000 Angels, called "Halleluiah Square". Ray sure can play the harmonica and Millie still can play a mean keyboard!

I am Ray Overholt's grandaughter. My grandfather will be 84 years old this July 24th and is still singing praises to the Lord. His song and other songs are known all over the world, yet he is the most humble, Godly man I have ever known. We now have 3 generations of gospel music ministry in our family because of he and my Grandma Millie. Their example to us of what it really means to dedicate your life to serving God has had an impact on us and to everyone he meets.

My Grandaughter, Becky Overholt-Davis sent this article to me. Yes, Ray is a great man. He and Millie have been a blessing to our family. His God inspired music has brought many to Jesus. May God continue to use them. God Bless. Geneva Speas

I have known Ray & Millie Overholt all my life and they are two of the single most positive influences on me. I have had the privelege of recording for Ray's label as a young man and recording and producing Ray and Millie as an adult in my career as a Nashville record producerand studio owner. Both are higlights of my personal career. I have also talked with many Major artists both Country and Gospel (as I recorded one of Ray's songs on a project with them) who have been affected by Ray's great songs. It always makes me smile and feel lucky to have had Ray as a mentor and friend when one of his songs passses through my recording consle regardless of who the artist is. Ray is a consumate songwriter and Ray and Millie are both consumate christian examples. I love them like they are my own parents! I will forever treasure my childhood memories of gospel sings and late night dinners with the Overholts, the Otts, the Capitalaires Quartet, the Keynotes, and all the great gospel groups from Michigan in that era. Ray and his music always has been and always will be an active part of my life.

Where is Middleville, Ohio? I heard that Ray Overholt was raised near Middleville, Michigan. I do know that there is a Middleville, Michigan (I use to live there). Also, a Middleville, New York, but never heard of a Middleville, Ohio.

Ray was born raised in Middleville Michigan. He later moved to Battle Creek and met Millie. They raised their son in Battle Creek (Ron- my dad). He still resides in Battle Creek. He will be 84 years old this July 24th. His mind is a steal trap...doesn't forget a thing ...he can't see(only faint shadows) but if I'm ever lost on the road I can call him and no matter where I am he can guide me home...the US map is imprinted on his mind along with each exit number, name of towns and landmarks. He is incredible!!!!
