Although a new name to Southern Gospel music fans, these girls are not new to singing it. They have beautiful harmonies that remind you of a Southern Gospel version of Point Of Grace. They are made up of a mother, Donna, her daughter, Jessica, and a close friend of theirs Tricia. Most of these songs are original songs written by the girls.
They start off with a song entitled, “He Is Not Here”, written by group member, Tricia Jeffers. This is a medium tempo song. I love the mandolin on this track. This is a traditional Southern Gospel song. Good words. Good song. “Come Home”, written by group member Jessica Meares is next. This is a ballad. The chorus is from God’s perspective. This is a good, encouraging song that can relate to the people. This would be a good alter call song. Jessica does a beautiful job on this song. Pretty song. The next song is, “Father I Love You”, which is also written by Jessica. The violin in this track is gorgeous. This is another slow ballad. This is a very pretty song. This is more of a contemporary song coming from a personal stand point.
The title song, “I Am Forgiven”, another written by Tricia, picks up the pace for a medium, “feel good” tempo. This is another good, traditional Southern Gospel style song. “I Won’t Let You Go”, written by group member, Donna Meares is next. This one slows things back down. This is another song written from a personal perspective. The harmonies are very pretty and tight throughout the song. The pace gets picked up a good bit with, “Just A Little Talk With Jesus”. I have to say, this is my favorite song on the whole CD. It’s a good “crowd mover”. In my opinion, they sing it a little too laid back and soft. I’d punch it a little more and really put something into this particular song. It’s just a little too pretty.
Next is another song written by Donna, “The Joy Of The Lord”. The pace gets slowed back down with this one. This song gives encouragement that the joy of the Lord is our strength, and no matter what we go through, God will pull us through it. Great words. “Let The Rocks Keep Silent”, picks things back up. I love this song! I first heard this song by a church choir. It’s a great, “get up and go” song. I’d still like to hear them give it a little more feeling and punch. In the reprise, they put a little soul into it, but I’d still love to hear more.
Another of Tricia’s songs, “With Open Arms”, is cut number nine on the project. This is a good song to hear when you’re going through something and need a consolation that God is still there. The acoustic first verse with just piano really makes for a gorgeous beginning. It gives room for the vocal to shine. The words have a way of speaking right to the heart. This is a beautiful song. “We Give You Glory”, ends up things with a good, medium tempo. Our choir actually sang this at my home church a few years back. This is a good way to leave things, giving glory to God. Jessica and Donna share the verses. Tricia takes some adlibs toward the end that really gives the song that “WHAM” it needs. She’s got a great, strong voice that needs to be shown off a little more. Most of what you hear is “soft” singing. I’d love to hear Tricia really break out that strong part of her voice every once in a while.
I know these girls, and actually grew up with one of them. They are beautiful people and beautiful singers. Their sound and songwriting will take them a long way. Keep it up girls. I give you 4 stars because I know there’s even better to come, and I would put a few more fast/medium tempo songs in the lineup. All those slow songs start to sound the same after a while. It’s a great project though. Good job!
