Southern Gospel Promoters Association

This month’s Promoter Spotlight is on Dorothy Byrd

As a fairly new promoter, I don’t have a lot of great stories to tell like most of the more seasoned promoters do. I have been promoting for about five years. First Day Promotions consist of Robbie and Dale Maxwell, my husband, Bobby Byrd, my daughter, Kay Meacham and myself.

This past weekend was a very busy one for us.First Day was host to Alabama’s Largest Thanksgiving Sing held each year in Cullman, Al. Triumphant Quartet and The Dove Brothers Quartet did a wonderful job on Friday night. Saturday night it was Palmetto State and The Dixie Echoes that had the crowd on their feet. Our host group, New Ground, had the place rocking both nights.
Josh Garner did a great job as emcee and also thrilled the crowd with his singing. We were reassured that Southern Gospel is alive and well in Alabama.

I have a lot of friends that have been a tremendous help to me in my short time as a promoter. I firmly believe that we will all be much better promoters if we cooperate with each other. Concerts feed off of each other. In our area the promoters are very supportive and usually attend each other’s concerts. We also need to be aware of what is going on around us when we book the groups. If there is a concert five miles down the road it doesn’t make financial sense to book on the same night.

Not only am I a promoter, I am a huge fan of Southern Gospel Music. I usually attend several concerts per month.
.
What an inspiration the artist, promoters and fans have been during my recent battle to overcome cancer. I would like to take this opportunity to thank everyone for their prayers. Through God’s grace and the prayers of His people I am in remission.

I also enjoy working with the Southern Gospel Promoters Association. As treasurer of this association I have been fortunate to work with some great people and to make a lot of good friends. I may never be a great promoter like some of the ones I have had the pleasure of meeting, but I will continue to do whatever the Lord leads me to do.
