The Menders consist of well known radio promotions man, Phillip Emery, his wife, Pauline Emery, and their daughter, Kendra Emery. When Phillip is taking the lead, the Menders have a very nice country sound. Phillip has a lot of expression in his voice and in his delivery. When the ladies take the lead, their sound metamorphoses into a very pretty Praise and Worship sound.
Two songs that stand out to me on this CD are written by Rebecca Peck. The first, “Like Jesus Did” has a very folksy sound yet very worshipful. The second is “Breath Of The Spirit”. This song could be in any praise service in any church on Sunday morning. It’s one of th9ose songs where you can just close your eyes and enter into the presence of the Lord.
“Farther Down The Road”, the title cut for the CD has a catchy chorus, and if they are wanting to release a song to radio, this one would play well on Southern Gospel stations. “Better Get Ready”, penned by Connie Hopper, is a toe tapper that will lift your spirit. Phillip really drives home the message on his interpretation of “What Ya’ Gonna Do?” and “I’ll Never Be Over The Hill” are full of expression. Other songs that ministered to me include “I Am Free”, “Vessel Of Mercy”, and “When He Whispered Sweet Peace To Me”.
