Manchester, Illinois is the home of this wonderful family group, the Chosen Ones. The group is made up of Mike and Melanie Rueter along with their three children, Mariah, Tressa and Brady. Great family harmony is hard to beat and this family has some of the best.
They kick the project off with three great songs from the pen of Mark Mathes. “It’s In the Book” is a fun song that catches your attention right away and features Mike Rueter on lead vocals. “She Knew” is a great ballad that showcases the vocals of Mariah. This song explains how that both Jesus’ mother and the woman with the expensive perfume understood who Jesus was.
“He Is Who He Is” picks the tempo back up and is a traditional Southern Gospel song with a strong beat. Mariah is featured once again on the lead vocals. Brady Rueter is featured on a classic song written by Ronnie Hinson, “He Pilots My Ship”. Brady, the bass singer for the group, shows us his vocal range on this song.
Melanie and Mike Rueter split the feature vocals on the next song, written by Dee Gaskin and Wayne Haun, “Show Me Your Face”. Melanie has a smooth alto voice and this song is a perfect fit for her voice. Mike, a strong lead singer, sings “Up to Something Good”, a song from Steve Cheney and Tammie Herring. This song is very commercial and would make a strong single for the group.
“What a Time”is another song from Steve Cheney and co-writers, Marc Cheney, J.M. Henson and J.T. Cook. This song is a traditional convention style song that takes us back to groups like the Speers and LeFevres. “The Next Time He Comes” features Brady on lead vocals. This song shows the versatility of the group vocally. With five vocalists they are able to stack their vocals many different ways to offer up some great harmonies.
“Everything to Me” showcases the female vocalists of the Chosen Ones. 14 year old Tressa Rueter shares the lead vocals with her sister, Mariah. Joined by Mom, Melanie, these three ladies sing some beautiful, smooth harmony on this great ballad from Sue Smith and Chad Cates. Chris Binion has penned a great up tempo song, featuring Melanie Rueter, “Nothing Like Being Saved”.
Melanie and Tressa do a super job on a very pretty song, “Thru the Eyes of Jesus”, written by Dan and Ginger Pitchers, Niles Borop and Rebecca Peck. This song is a worshipful song and a nice addition to the project. The Chosen Ones close the project out with the classic Gordon Jenson song, “Redemption Draweth Nigh”. This song, first made popular in the 1970’s is still as powerful as it was then and even timelier than ever. Mike does a great job conveying the message of this song.
The Chosen Ones are one of the most genuine families in our industry today, with a great heart for ministry and a love for people. This is a group that you need to become acquainted with.

Having known these FINE FINE folks personally for over five years, I can personally say this is their finest project to date. These are some of the friendliest people you could ever meet and some of the greatest friends I can say I have.
Ed you are right on I have worked with them several times and find that they are the most consistent Christian folks around. Thier willingness to give it all to the project and also to God are very obvious. I love each experience and production with The Chosen Ones They are truly a blessing...
ET, you are so right on about The Chosen Ones. They always make my week at NQC so much easier.
I spent the afternoon at the 2nd Church of God in Decatur, Illinois with my Mother, Loretta, on October 5th and was so lifted by this wonderful family, The Chosen Ones, and their musical talents and love for the Lord. My heart just swelled during the concert, and I felt more blessed and comfortable during those few hours than I had in a long time. I picked up a few of their CDs and have listened to them nonstop since returning home. 'The Chosen Ones' have a friend in North Carolina.
Love Southern Gospel Music and all those who carry the gospel in song.
The Chosen Ones are absoluteley the best group in southern gospel. The song Melanie sang @ NQC "She Knew" was fantastic....and it is on the new CD.
