The Benge Family

The Benge Family

The Benge Family, consisting of brothers and sister, Jeff, Julene, Kathy, and Jason Benge, and Karena on the piano, is an exciting group with a young live band. When they were youngsters, their Dad was pastoring a church with very few musicians. So, Jeff started learning to play the drums. As the kids aged a little and were able to learn, they were taught to play different instruments, until finally they had their own full band.

About three years ago, this family decided that God wanted them to take their singing and playing more seriously, so they went to Eddie Crook Company to make their first of two recordings with that company. From those two albums they managed to get three top 80 charting songs. Jeff says that there is nothing like when someone approaches them after a concert and tells them that something they sang about has touched their heart. Once after a concert was over a man came to Jeff and told him that he was contemplating suicide, but changed his mind after being blessed by their ministry.

The Benges are a very church oriented group. They love to minister in churches, but they also love to be in church when they are not singing. They often arrange their schedule so that they can sing Friday, Saturday, and Sunday mornings and make it home in time to be at their church Sunday nights. Jason does a little preaching, Julene teaches a Sunday School Class, and Kathy works with the choir. Jeff explains that their Dad instilled in them the need to be in church.

Jeff and Julene are the songwriters in the group. Jeff explained that they try to look deep inside themselves as they go through the struggles of life, and put down on paper how God has a plan in it all.

This group feels that they are somewhere between where they began and where they want to be. They are constantly trying to pull out old hymns as well as new songs so that they can develop a fan base that will envelope many different faces. The Benges enjoy singing and playing so much that they don’t even mind setting up and tearing down. Now that is enjoying what you are doing.

One place they would like to sing at but never have is the Grand Ole Opry. They would love to sing to a secular crowd so they could feel that anointing that comes from singing Gospel music.

The Benges have had their share of personal struggles and are able to testify to God’s healing and protection. Six years ago Jeff’s baby was born with a diaphragmic hernia. The Doctors gave them no hope for their baby to survive; she was one life support for two weeks. Shortly after being taken off the life support, she developed pneumonia and again was put on life support. When she was finally over that, they sent her home to die. In the event that she did survive, the Doctors said that she would be blind and deaf. Six years later Christian Faith Benge is doing just fine with none of the problems that the Doctors had predicted.

This is what radio promoter Rick Hendrix had to say about the Benges: The Benge Family are one of the few artists in Southern Gospel music traveling with a full band. This group has amazed me. They have landed hit after hit in the charts and continue to build fan bases in every state. I am so excited about what the future holds for this family. It’s endless. They are great singers, Christians and musicians. I am excited to represent them and to be their friend. All around this family is a hit.

The Benges are excited to be working on their third album being produced by Angie Hoskins. Jeff says that Angie as been a true friend to their family.

I have been totally impressed by the Benge Family each and every time I have had the opportunity to hear them perform. They not only sing and play from the heart, but from the soul too. If you like music that refreshes the spirit then I encourage you to attend one of their concerts. I have always thought that the best vocalist's as well as musician's were born from the church and gospel music. I am certain that the Benge Family with their multi-talents will be a huge success on the Southern Gospel charts. You should listen to the little lady named Kathy she has overwhelming music volume coming from her diaphram
aand each sound that she sings is beautiful and angelic. CONGRATULATIONS KATHY ON YOUR UPCOMING CONTEST FOR AMERICAN IDOL ON APRIL 17TH, 2005 AT KING'S ISLAND AMUSEMENT PARK. I KNOW YOU WERE PICKED TO BE IN THE TOP 5 FINALIST'S AND I AM SURE YOU WILL BE NUMBER 1 AFTER IT IS OVER. GOOD LUCK KATHY AND TO ALL MEMBERS OF THE BENGE FAMILY YOU DO A TREMENDOUS JOB IN THE AREA OF SOUTHERN GOSPEL MUSIC, YOU HAVE MY SUPPORT.
