Talley Trio - Anthology

Producer:  Roger Talley
Label:  Horizon Records
Website:  www.talleytrio.com

Since the group’s “reinvention” back in the mid to late 1990s, the Talley Trio has made great strides and great music along the way.  When the final list of great songs in Southern Gospel Music is compiled, surely many of the ones included on this recording will make that list.  Aptly titled, Anthology, this recording contains the best of the best that the Talley Trio has to offer.

The recording very appropriately begins with their former #1 hit, “SEARCHIN’” and quickly goes through a musical masterpiece of hits including “THE HEALER”, “JESUS SAVES”, “HIS LIFE FOR MINE”, “HE SAW ME”, “TESTIFY”, “THE ANSWER IS CHRIST”, “I’M FREE”, and the recording aptly closes with “I LOVE THE LORD/TOTAL PRAISE”, where you’re left to either boisterously shout your own “amen” or reverently whisper it.  An added treat are new vocal renditions of “ON TIME GOD”, “IF ANYBODY KNOWS” and “BUILT ON THE ROCK”.

We are also treated to 3 brand new songs which are all extremely well done, including the current single, “THE DEBT” (can we say #1 song?) as well as “THE MERCY OF THE LORD” and “JESUS BE A FENCE AROUND ME” (which was also recently recorded by the Telestials).

I felt a couple songs were missing from this collection such as their first chart song as new group, “Simply Unexplainable” as well as “I Am What I Am”.  All in all though, this is an excellent compilation of great songs with the added delight of a few new tunes to add more bang for your buck.

I really thought that it was missing not only the 2 you mentioned, but "When Anyone Looks at Me." I was fine with the song selection, and have enjoyed it since I bought it a couple of weeks ago. It's amazing how much Lauren's voice has matured over the years. This cd is one of my favorite collections of songs. My favorite song is, The Debt. I plan to do a song intro on "The Gospel Greats" program. smile Thanks, for great review.
