Southern Sound of Nashville, TN is a group of gentleman that are proudly waving the banner of traditional 4 part male quartet harmony. They not only desire to keep alive the “Golden Age of Southern Gospel,” they excel at it. The current line up Southern Sound includes lead singer Ben Harris, baritone Tony Peace, tenor Mike Young, pianist Barry Patrick and Alan Brewster, who sings bass with the group.
Their new project, Through the Years is a compilation of songs from groups of ages past. Back when several groups could record the same songs and everyone loved it. So I will refrain from mentioning some of my original favorites since they probably won’t be the same as some of yours. Something to Shout About is a stand out performance from bass singer, Alan Brewster. I will tell you that I had several favorites, some for purely sentimental reasons. Jordan’s Swelling Tide is a stand out due largely to the intricate harmonies that have always been critical to this song. They mastered every single chord. Let Your Love is a song that just makes you happy. If Everybody Prayed had excellent unison lines and was a beautiful rendition. Rolling Along is probably one of my favorite songs that J.D. Sumner ever wrote.
If you are looking for a traditional quartet cd to add to your collection, go pick up a copy of Through the Years. You will not be disappointed.

Southern Sound is one of the best 4 part quartets I have ever heard. All the others are great also and it is very hard to pick a #1. I have known these guys for several years now and I just can't get enough of there message they represent from Jesus Christ through their music. If you have never heard them then please go to http://www.southersoundquartet.com, you won't be disappointed.
Thank you for the unexpected review. Just to clarify, all of these songs are songs that we as a group recorded in years past, and are no longer available on their original CD. We pulled in the old masters and re-recorded all the vocals. There is one song that previously had not been released by us, although we did record the song a few years back. It was a departure in style for us, but this time we thought it might be fun to include it on theis compliation of songs we recorded "Through The Years".
These guys are top notch singers and top notch men. Their harmonies are tops. Their desire to do the best for God shines through in everything they do. I haven't heard the "re-masters" on the recording, but if they are better than the original - - better buckle your seat belts!! Check out their website and try to go see the guys of Southern Sound.
It just doesn't get any better than singing by Southern Sound.
