Sometimes It Takes A While

For many years now, I've had this encouragement ministry to musicians. Romans 12:8 confirmed to me powerfully that this was a calling for me when I questioned if I was indeed doing the Lord's work, as someone had remarked to me. Last year I met someone and shortly thereafter felt a strong sense that I was on an assignment from God. It was as if God kept pointing out this person and telling me, "I've got one for you. Do your encouragement thing."

There were times in this period when I told God, "I think you've got the wrong person for the job. It's not working." (Yes, I boldly told God He was wrong!) But God just kept on pointing. I kept praying for clarity and an answer to the question of just what I was supposed to be doing here. Finally, after several months of praying this prayer, I got my answer. Not only were my questions answered, but I found out that what God had me do had much more of an impact on this person than I'd even realized. To God be the glory!

If you've been open to being used of God for a particular purpose, you may be called by Him. What you may not know right away is what you're going to be doing and/or why. Sometimes that's the case in the working world as well. You may recognize the scenario of being told to follow a particular procedure and it makes absolutely no sense at the time. But that's how those in charge are telling you to do it, so you follow along. When you obey God's calling to you, you take the steps as He has directed you to do…even though you aren't quite sure why you're doing it.

Other times, when you have no idea just what's going on or if it's even working, you may, as I did, think that God's got the wrong person for the task. So did many heroes of the Bible who felt they were not up to what God was asking of them. That's because the whole story hadn't been played out in front of them yet. These times are when we need to walk by faith and not by sight.

Trust and obedience are not easy things to hold on to when all this is going on. But hold on you must. When the time is right, He will let you know the plan, the results will be at hand and God will be glorified.

Elaine Harcourt's avatar What a wonderful & much needed ministry, Wendy. I know you receive as much of a blessing as do those you encourage.

God is good all the time & all the time God is good.
