Rev. Sim T. “S.T.” McGinnis Passes Away

Rev. Sim T. "S.T." McGinnis, age 87, of Athens, Tennessee died Wednesday, August 27, 2008. Mack McGinnis, as most people knew him, began promoting Southern Gospel Music in 1951 at the Pope Avenue Baptist Church in Athens, Tennessee. He later promoted concerts at the Cleveland Baptist Temple in Cleveland, Ohio and then worked hand in hand with Sonny Simmons of Century II Promotions. Mack was an ordained Baptist Minister with a Doctorate in Theology and Doctorate of Divinity. He was a builder and pastor of five Southern Baptist churches in six states and an avid lover of Southern Gospel Music. Mack is survived by his wife, Bernice McGinnis, two step-children, five grandchildren, five great grandchildren, two brothers and a sister.

Funeral service will be at 8:00 pm Saturday, August 30th in the Chapel of Laycock-Hobbs Funeral Home, 521 Jackson NE, Athens, TN 37303, with visitation 6:00 to 8:00 pm, prior to the Funeral. Interment will be Sunday 2:00 pm in Cedar Grove Cemetary.
