The Patriot Quartet was formed in 1996 as a church trio based out of Salvisa, Kentucky. The group eventually formed into a quartet and have been singing as such since 2000. In the Good Old Days, Classics Vol. 2 is the latest recording from this quartet - a follow up to Quartet Classics which was released a few years ago.
This album is just as it describes - chock full of classic Southern Gospel songs. Tracks like "The Statue of Liberty," "Just a Little Talk," "I Believe In a Hill Called Mt. Calvary," and "The Eastern Gate" are sure to be concert favorites and loved by audiences across the country.
The arrangements on this disc are pretty straightforward quartet arrangements - especially seen on the opening cut "The Good Old Days" and "He Is Mine and I Am His." The Patriot Quartet doesn't really have any stand out vocalists - so tackling big songs like "I Believe In a Hill CalledMt. Calvary" or "After All" may not have been the best song choices.
The country flair of "I'll Have a New Song" is a really strong cut for the group, "The City of Gold" also is an album highlight with its prominent steel guitar.
Overall, the Patriot Quartet's In the Good Old Days, Classics Vol. 2 is a nice album full of quartet classics. Fans of traditional quartet music will sure find a lot to like here.
