Palmetto State Quartet - There’s Something Going On

Cathedral Records

Palmetto State has done it again. They have produced another magnificent album. After their last couple of CD leaned toward the older familiar Southern Gospel sound, they have switched gears again.

The first song on the CD is the title song, written by and featuring Tenor Brion Carter, “There’s Something Going On” The style is pretty Progressive Southern Gospel and the message is that of a Biblical story. I think that this cut would make a good radio release. “When I Saw Jesus”, also penned by Brion Carter, features Baritone Singer Tony Peace. His interpretation of this ballad is great and the message is uplifting and worshipful. The track is fully orchestrated and fits the song adding a depth of feeling to the song. “That Old Alter” gives you that ole traditional Southern Gospel feel and message.

Going once again to a little Progressive feel, “The Everlasting Peace” is a beautiful song, full of some of the best harmony you will ever hear. You can sit back, lift your hands, and just worship the Lord while listening to this cut. Kerry Beatty does a fantastic job on the lead of this song. “Oh My Heart Is Still Rejoicing” is reminiscent of some older Palmetto State sounds. You had better get you running shoes on when this song starts. This is one of my favorite songs on the CD.

Another of my favorite picks is “Roll Away Troubled River”, featuring phenomenal bass singer Jeff Pearls. Jeff is one of those Bass singers who can actually sing when he’s hitting those ultra-low notes.  Brion Carter shows his song writing talents again on “There’s Nothing There”. The message of this song reminds us that when Satan accuses us, that we can reply that there is nothing there, for Jesus has wiped all our sins away. “Keep Your Eyes On The Prize” is another one of those songs that shows the tremendous harmonizing abilities of this group. The message of this cut reminds us to keep our eyes on Jesus, and not stray away from our goal.

“The Prayer Of Yesterday” is a song of thankfulness for the answered prayers that God have given us in our yesterdays. This fine CD closes with “Yes I Can”, a song uplifting and encouraging us to continue in our walk with the Lord. You will be blessed after listening to this song.

I am glad to see The Palmetto State Quartet push the envelope just a little on this project, producing some marvelous and enjoyable sounds.

    There's Something Going On
    .
    By Brion Carter

    Verse 1
    Just a quiet little town
    Around noonday was the scene
It was time to rest a moment
    From the daily old routine
    Then the people started stirring
    All commotion filled the air
    Something shook that little town
    You could hear it everywhere

    Chorus
There’s something going on at the well, at the well
She drank from living water is the story all could tell
He told her all she ever did, now won’t you come and see
Oh, is this not the Christ, this man of Galilee?
There’s something going on at the well.

    Verse 2
So they came out of the city
They came to meet the Lord
    Many found the Living Water
    Giving life forevermore
So they ask Him, Will you tarry?
And for two days Jesus stayed
When they heard what Jesus said
Like the woman they were saved ...
Like the woman they were saved

    Chorus
There’s something going on at the well, at the well
She drank from living water is the story all would tell
He told her all she ever did, now won’t you come and see
Oh, is this not the Christ, this man of Galilee?
There’s something going on at the well.

    Tag

Oh, won’t you come and see this Christ of Calvary?
There’s something going on at the well
At the well ... at the well
