Old Time Gospel Hour Quartet
Some interviews are more interesting than others, and this was one of those really interesting interviews. This was conducted at the National Quartet Convention and we had decided to lighten our interviews up just a little.
I conducted this interview a little differently by asking some different questions.
Robbie Hiner and Wyatt Wilson: What are were your favorite action heros as a child?
Robbie?s answer was the Lone Ranger but after thinking about it he said that real men had GI Joe as an action hero. Wyatt quickly agreed, adding that "sissies" had Ninja Turtles for action heroes. This could make for some interesting behind the stage talk.
What was the worse trouble that they got into as a kid
Wyatt said that we could be there all afternoon listening to all the trouble that Robbie got into. Sure enough, Robbie had a long list of things. The worst of which was that he was sent to the principal's office for a whippin' his last day of high school for throwing a rotten tomato in a red headed girls hair, Robbie said that she had been tormenting him all year, as though that made it alright.
Wyatt seemed to think that he was a much better child in that all he did was build a fort of bailed hay after his father told him not to. It seems that the other kids in the neighborhood simply asked and Wyatt was all too willing to comply with their requests.
What the worst thing that Wyatt had done on stage?
Robbie replied that the worst thing just happened a couple of nights earlier while singing the song "On My Journey Home". During the song Robbie usually dances around a bit and Wyatt always sits him down on a stool that is always on stage. It seems that Wyatt was pushing Robbie down so hard that his knees were buckling, but Robbie was refusing to sit down. It seems that someone had removed the stool and Wyatt was attempting to push Robbie on to the floor. When the the time came for the roles to be reversed Wyatt seemed to remember that Robbie vanished from the stage in the middle of their stand and came walking back on stage with a cookie in his hand. Robbie said that the crowd "ate it up".
How has life on the bus changed with Jeff Pearles?
Robbie said that it was always interesting with Jeff around. With two Jeff's on the bus, Jeff Stanley gets to keep his name and the other Jeff goes by JP. One instance was late at night when JP put his pajamas pants on way up high without his shirt on, then put his belt on, and then grabbed a microphone and started singing full speed, just like he was doing a concert. They must have interesting road trips.
Have they ever had any car accidents?
At first Robbie denied any at all, but finally came clean. Seems that he drove his car into a lake bed. He says he thought that it was dry, but when he got out the car was in mud up to the windows. It apparently took a bull dozer to get the car out. Robbie says that he got a whuppin' for that one too. Robbie also seemed to remember running off the road one night while trying to put his arm around a girl.
Is there some place that they have not sung yet that they would like to?
They answered that they are finally singing out of the country by going to Canada. They have also been invited to Ireland. Of course Robbie said that he wanted to go "beach witnessing" in Tahiti.
What was the worst thing that they have done as a group in a restaurant?
It also seems that Robbie has a habit of throwing food in a restaurant. Also beware of being in the restroom when OTGHQ is around, because the lights could go out.
Who were some of their greatest vocal influence?
Robbie says that George Beverly Shea and Doug Oldham were his biggest influences. While Wyatt says that Doug Oldham and Glen Payne were his biggest vocal influences.
Who was in their CD player at present?
Robbie said that he was listening to the new Christian Brothers Quartet and was very complimentary of them, while Wyatt had been listening to LordSong and the Booth Brothers.
Robbie describes the Old Time Gospel Hour Quartet as Inspirational/Southern Gospel. He likes using the big ballads with the big sounds which he thinks adds some class to their music. OTGHQ would like to tell the readers to support their local concerts. The would also like to encourage young people to give SGM a chance.
The Old Time Gospel Hour Quartet is comprised of Robbie Hiner, Wyatt Wilson, Jeff Stanley and Jeff Pearles. Hiner, who maintains the tenor position, served as minister of music for Thomas Road over a five-year period and since has resigned to start a music publishing and production company, Old Time Gospel Hour Music, ( [url=http://www.otghmusic.com]http://www.otghmusic.com[/url] ). He has been involved in the music industry for many years and is noted for such accomplishments as a writer, producer and appearances on the Gaither Video series. Wilson and Stanley sang together years ago in a Gospel group, but realized that the time was not right. During their time off the road, they both spent time at other careers and taught vocal coaching at Steve Hurst School of Music over the summers. Wyatt sings the lead, while Jeff holds down the baritone. Jeff Pearles joined the group as bass singer after previously singing with Palmetto State Quartet.

I really enjoyed this article. It was a lot more of a "get to know the guys" type of thing and I for one really appreciated it.
Sounds like you guys still like to have fun.We've know Wyatt and Jeff Stanley since the Lighthouse trio days.You're still going strong for the Lord. God Bless You ALL.
