Old Time Gospel Hour Quartet - The Return

Daywind Music Group

Sometimes groups have what is known as the sophomore jinx on their second album. Not so on, this new CD by The Old Time Gospel Hour Quartet.

The title song, “The Return”, opens this fantastic CD. Written by Gerald Crabb, this is a traditional quartet song with everyone taking a different part. It is sung with lots of energy, making it a real fun song. “Jesus, Jesus” is next. Penned by group member Robby Hiner, this medium tempo song almost has a Jewish feel to it. While the musical feel may be Jewish, the message is definitely Christian, speaking of the Messiah and Redeemer. Bass singer, Christian Davis, hits some low down notes on this cut.

One of my favorite songs on the CD is “On My Journey Home”. You better get your running shoes on when you listen to this one. You can get excited about your Christian walk just listening to this song. It has a nice little encore on the end, so you can enjoy just a little more of this song. I even like the fiddles in the track. Get ready to be blessed after listening to this cut.

“His Love” again features young Bass singer, Christian Davis. If you think he got low on the second song, just wait until you hear him on this one. The background vocals that the rest of the guys sing almost gives it a rosy pop sound. This would be a great radio release.

“Dancing In The Fire” is a delightful tune about the old Bible story of the three Hebrew children. The story gets told at a rather fast pace with lots instruments. The message of the song especially in the chorus gives you a little different view of what they may have been doing in the midst of that fire. This one could go as a radio release also.

You get lots of horns in the track of “That’s ‘A How I Know”. This is one of those songs that you can “snap” your fingers to. You will be humming this one when it’s over. “He Is Always There” has a neat saxophone on the track, and it helps to give it a bit of a 30’s pop sound. This is a fun song that will end up blessing you as you listen to the words.  “The Other Side Of The Cross” and “In The Midst Of This Valley” are tremendous ballads. The message of these songs is that of victory.

Showing their Progressive Southern Gospel side, this CD ends with “His Strength Is Perfect’. You can sit back and worship on this one. The harmony is just so close on this cut, you will love it.

There are twelve songs on this CD, so you really get your money’s worth and this project is worth every penny.
