New Edinburg, Arkansas is home to the exciting young trio, New Reason. If you are a fan of the Hinsons and that high energy Country Gospel Music, you will love this group.
Mechelle Brown sings alto for the group and is featured on the first cut, “Higher Expectations”, written by Richard Calhoun. This song is an energetic tune that gets the project off to a good start. Captain Smead lends his strong country vocals to the Jeffery Phillips song, “He’ll Calm the Storm”. This song keeps the tempo up and is done in cut time.
“When I Think of Home” features the group’s soprano, Tammy Dixon. This is a pretty, country ballad and is well sung. Tammy and Mechelle traveled for many years with their family group, the Peters Family, and are veterans of this style of music. “I Believe” cranks up the energy and would be a great choice for a radio single. This Dave Williford penned song is an edgy, progressive Christian Country song and is a highlight of the album. New Reason has included a couple of cover tunes on the project including a song made popular by the McFalls, “Places I’ve Been”. This song has a bluegrass feel and features Tammy.
“Tavern to a Temple” was originally released by Jeff and Sherri Easter. This song is perfect for Captain’s voice. It was nice to hear this song again. “Live Right, Die Right” also features Captain and is the second song from the pen of Richard Calhoun. The song is an up tempo Christian Country song and would be another good choice for radio release.
Mechelle Brown has a pleasing alto voice and is featured on “God’s Stormy Waters”. This song is a pretty ballad written by Jeffery Phillips. One of my favorite Hinson songs is “There’s Gonna Be Some Changes Made”. I have always enjoyed the energy of this song. New Reason did a nice job of changing the track up and making this song their own.“Face to Face” closes the project. This song was written by Mechelle Brown and features Tammy on lead vocals. This is a very good ballad and features some pretty harmony.
New Reason is an up and coming group in Southern Gospel Music. I’ve had the opportunity to see them live and they connect well with the audience. This project deserves some attention. Make sure to check it out for yourself.
