Monument Quartet - self titled

Produced by Johnny Minick and Aaron Minick
Recorded at The Playroom Studio, Smyrna, TN
Label – River of Life Music Group

This freshman project put out by The Monument Quartet consists of some veterans of the Gospel Music industry like Gary Casto and Josh Singletary, both formerly of the Wilburns, Dennis Dugger, formerly of the Apostles, and newcomer Marshal Pugh. This is Josh’s first attempt at singing, but he handles it like he’s been doing it all his life.

Group member Gary Casto and Barbara Huffman combine to write three of the songs on this project. Opening the CD with one of those Casto/Huffman songs is “It’s Time to Rise”. This up-tempo song has a great message. It’s their second radio release and it should do well on radio.

“Cross Over Jordan” is a nice ballad with some very close harmony. The message of the song is uplifting and if you’re going through struggles it will truly minister to you. “Roll On” features some great low Bass parts.

“Ring The Bells of Heaven” is a good ole camp meeting style song. Of course any song with Albert E. Brumley’s name on it is going to be good.

In that same vein “I Would Not Be Denied” and “Getting’ Ready to Leave This World are classic fast paced hymns that are very enjoyable.

“Who’s Going To Teach Them,” penned by the late John Matthews, is a thought provoking song asking “who’s going to teach our children after we are gone?”.

I really got caught up in the message of “Please Mr. Darwin”. It’s one of those cute songs that even your children can get into, but has a valuable message to it.

“Grace At It’s Best” the second of the Casto/Huffman songs is another strong ballad. The third song by this duo, “Cleansed Clothed, and Crowned,” is a traditional sounding SG song. I think this song could do well on radio also.

There are thirteen songs total on this CD, and not a bad one in the bunch. This one is worth the trip to the store to put it in your CD player.
