Michael Jason Frost - Sing Like it’s the Last Time

Producer: Danny Crawford
Label: Pinnacle
Website: http://www.michaeljasonfrost.com

I have been a fan of Michael's songwriting since I first became aware of his music about 6 years ago. Michael has performed for many years with his family group, the Frosts, and most recently been performing in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee at the Miracle Theater. The Frosts ceased from touring some time back and now Michael has come out with a superb solo CD, which showcases some previous songwriting efforts, as well as several new tunes.

The recording kicks off with the highly energetic, "GOD'S GONNA GIVE YOU A TESTIMONY" (single this song, please!). I can't help from hitting the repeat button several times before finally moving on to the remainder of the CD. This is THE song of the recording.

The pace slows down for the next several tunes as Michael weaves through several slow to medium tempo tunes such as "JESUS, MY FRIEND", "PROMISED FOREVER", "IF YOU COULD SEE YOURSELF THOUGH MY EYES" (previously recorded by Ivan Parker, and Michael's first single release) and others. The title song, "SING LIKE IT'S THE LAST TIME", sounds amazingly like something Dallas Holm would have written and sung in the late 70s or early 80s, and is a highlight of the recording.

Michael turns in his own renditions of "THAT'S GOD" and "THREE WORDS, THREE NAILS, THREE DAYS", which are two songs previously recorded and popularized by Heirline and HisSong respectively.

Michael renders a personal creation depicting his life growing up as the son of a preacher, aptly titled, "THE PREACHER'S SON". Another song worthy of a mention is the only other energetic, uptempo song found on the recording, "THAT'S HOW A MIRACLE FEELS".

Michael proves himself not only to be an extremely competent songwriter, but an excellent soloist in his own right. When he went into the studio to record, he didn't do a halfway job, but went all out to produce a highly enjoyable recording that is sure to put him on the map as a viable soloist. The overall quality of the recording is exceptional from every angle; the vocals (the Ruppe sisters provide stellar BGVs), the tracks, quality of the songs, etc. My only concern is the lack of uptempo tunes (there are only two); everything else is either medium tempo or slow. On the flipside, the songs are strategically placed so things do not get too redundant. I look forward to seeing how things progress for Michael and look to see many more artists pick on his material.

God's Gonna Give You a Testimony is the Best. My 8 year old has been to see Michael several times at the MIRACLE in Pigeon Forge. Your CD has been in such a help to Gerrit. God has given you such talents and we are blessed to have the opportunity to enjoy them.
