Matt Throgmorton - His Hand in Mine

Label- Independent
Producers- Matt Throgmorton and E. T. Elliott
Website- http://www.mattsministry.com

I had the privilege of meeting this young man from Marion, Illinois on a recent cruise to the Caribbean. On the cruise he was filling in for one of the groups performing. During that week they featured Matt several times and I was impressed with his pure tenor voice. He has put together a nice project filled with classic Gospel songs that is easy to listen to and worshipful.

He starts the project off with a ‘50’s style song that will remind you of a Jake Hess tune, “I’ll Tell It Wherever I Go”. He does a great job on the Hemphill’s classic, “Consider the Lillies”.

Mosie Lister has written many great Gospel songs but probably one of his most melodic is “His Hand in Mine”. Matt shows off his lilting Irish tenor voice on this great song. One of the prettiest hymns is “In the Garden”. Matt sings this old song well and adds a little of “Just a Closer Walk with Thee” to make it even better.

Every tenor has to include “Little Is Much” to make it a complete project. This is a simple old song but packs a powerful punch. “’Tis So Sweet to Trust in Jesus” is another great old hymn of the church. Matt starts this one out a capella.

“Jesus Loves Me” is considered a children’s song by most but this precious melody and lyric reaches way down deep where we live. Matt does a wonderful job of delivering this one. “Rock of Ages” is done with a little bluesy feel. This is another powerful old hymn.

“I’d Rather Have Jesus” is a very melodic old song that Matt sings very well. He closes the album out with “Praise to the Lord”. This song has a classical feel to it.

Matt Throgmorton is a fine tenor. The project is filled with all time favorites and is very relaxing but not boring. It could have used a couple of up tempo songs for variety however but I think that it was more of a theme album. I would love to hear him singing the tenor part in a good trio or quartet because he has the goods. Check his website out for yourself and be listening for more from Matt Throgmorton.

pdozment's avatar It comes as no surprise to us that Matt has scored well with this project. This young man has a voice that is pure and he has an attitude and personality to match.

Great work, Matt; and, Gary, thanks for the review. As for your quote, "I would love to hear him singing the tenor part in a good trio or quartet because he has the goods", when you hear him sing with the trio, ONE VOICE, you will be triply blessed!
