Master’s Voice - “I’m Gone”

Independent

Based out of Bristow, OK, Master’s Voice is comprised of Mikal Smith, Rick Knight, Mark Ledbetter, Ricky Capps, and John Tidwell.  Produced by Rick Shelton and Jim Black (Deville Productions), I’m thoroughly impressed with this CD.  This Oklahoma group is obviously young and has loads of talent just waiting to be shown to the world.  For instance, the title song, “I’m Gone” is a classic quartet song.  Written by none other than the talented, Ricky Atkinson, this song really makes these boys shine.  And if the reprise doesn’t knock your socks off…I don’t know what will!

“Almost Persuaded” is a beautiful ballad written by the group’s own John Tidwell.  “God Can and He Will” is very comparative to the sound of the early 90’s Gold City.  Master’s Voice pulls it off with no problems. If ever there were a song that I would say was one that would best fit this group, it’d be “He Washed My Feet”, written by Rodney Griffin.  Beautiful harmonies sung softly and tenderly.  The CD ends like it begins with a classic southern gospel quartet song,
“Hallelujah, I’m Going Home”.

Song selections range from old time quartet style to a little more progressive in sound.  Production quality is very impressive and obviously much time was spent in making this CD.  Vocally, I would’ve liked to have heard a little more bass singing, but all in all, great vocal arrangements, giving the listener a chance to hear the abilities of each singer.  My favs:  “I’m Gone”, “Almost Persuaded”, “He Washed My Feet”, and “Hallelujah, I’m Going Home”.

I heard master's voice at the Steve Hurst School of Music when I was down there with my quartet. I thank that they have a wonderful sound and enjoy their spirits. However I also would like to hear more bass features as well. But these guys are great.

    God bless,David Campbell

We can't get enough of these boys. I can't wait to hear more of their songs. Even our toddlers love them. As soon as we get into our cars they begin to yell "gone" "gone" wanting to hear "I'm Gone" There is just something refreshing about them!

Great Spirit, dedication, talent, and professional in every way. I've heard them several times at the Heaven's Gates Gospel Orpy in Perkins, Oklahoma and I have their CD.
