Master Peace is an all-male trio based out of Chattanooga, Tennessee. The group recently released House of Hope - their latest recording with GrapeVine Records (a division of Song Garden Music Group).
House of Hope was produced by David Staton and features some great tracks with a real cutting edge sound - notably on cuts like "I'm Going Over," "Praise Makes the Walls Come Down," and "Turning Point."
The recording also features some heavy-weight songwriters such as Kenna West, Gus Gaches, Jason Clark, David Staton, Mark Willett, Matt Huessman, and more. "I'm Going Over" is a catchy, radio-friendly number with a fun country sound, while "House of Hope" is a nice, mid-tempo song inspired by the group's partnership with Habitat for Humanity. "When I Speak Jesus" features a nice middle-of-the-road sound, and "We Honor You With Praise" finds Master Peace picking up more of a church-music sound.
All is not rosy on House of Hope. "Flag of Victory" has a lot of potential, but the guys don't give it the kind of gusto needed for the style of the song. It never really goes where the song needs it to dynamically. "Turning Point" starts off with a fun, bouncy jazz accompaniment - but the group's vocals sound forced and unaffected by the mood the track has set. Also, "I'm Going Thru" is just awkward all the way through. I'm not exactly sure what the group was going for. The sound of the song really takes the listener away from the message of the song.
Overall, Master Peace shows a lot of potential on House Hope. With a little more work on their vocals, blend and dynamics, Master Peace could be a name we hear of more often than not.
