Loving With Thankfulness

Having just celebrated Thanksgiving, my thoughts have turned to giving thanks and the blessings God has brought into my life. We’ve often heard that we need to live with a thankful heart, and that is true. But I realized that not only should we LIVE with a thankful heart, we also need to LOVE with a thankful heart.

I spend much of my time telling others of Jim’s many accolades. He’s cute, he’s a great singer and songwriter, he’s sensitive and compassionate...you know. And although I often tell others how great I think he is, I wonder if I tell him that enough? Do I too often assume he already knows how I feel?

I recently heard Zig Ziglar give the advice that a husband should never tell his wife that another woman is pretty. What will happen is that the wife will begin to believe she is no longer pretty to her husband. Because if she were pretty to her husband, wouldn’t he have complimented her instead of the other woman?

That philosophy is the same for us wives. We shouldn’t compare our husbands to other men nor should we just assume they know that we love and appreciate them. We need to love with thankfulness!

Here are a few ways we can love with thankfulness:

1. Say It
Tell your spouse you are thankful for them. Pick something specific that they do for you, such as making coffee in the morning and say “Thank you for taking the time to make the coffee, I really appreciate your thoughtfulness!”

2. Show It

Do something nice for your spouse. Buy her flowers, make his favorite dinner or bring breakfast in bed.

3. Share It

Do something with your spouse. Pick something the other likes to do and do it with them. Arrange a date night. Spend time TOGETHER!

4. Write It

Write a note and tuck it in his jacket before he goes to work. Send cards in the mail while you’re away on business. Whether you’re at home or away, send a sweet email or an e-card to be read the next time they get online.

5. Live it

Don’t wait until a holiday tells you to be thankful or until something tragic scares you into showing that you care. Show your love and thankfulness on a daily basis. Start living and loving with thankfulness!

P.S.
Thank you all for the great comments you’ve been posting. You all are an encouragement and I appreciate your support!
I hope you all have a wonderful holiday season filled with love and laughter!

Merry Christmas!
