JP Miller - One More Song

Producer: Troy Peach
Label: Sideman Productions
Website: www.jpmiller.tv
Song Titles: “He Will Do The Rest,” “How Could I Ask For More,” “In Jesus Name,” “Who I Am,” “Taking It Back,” “Every Knee Shall Bow,” “Because Of Grace,” “What A Mighty God Can Do,” “Give Him The Praise,” and “Coming Home”

JP Miller has a smooth voice and seems to enjoying singing upbeat songs that let him slide into notes. One More Song is Miller's solo project, produced by Troy Peach who also sang background vocals. Katy Peach also sings background vocals on this CD. Miller has recently joined forces with the Peaches to form a trio called First Love . You can  probably get a good idea about the way they'll sound as a trio by listening to One More Song .

One More Song has good production quality. The players include Josh Singletary , Joel Key , and John Michael Brady . My only gripe with the production quality is that Miller's vocal seems to be mixed without enough (if any) reverb. Everything else seems to be mixed about right, but his vocal sounds a little too dry to me.

The project opens with an up-tempo song called “He'll Do The Rest.” It's followed by “How Could I Ask For More,” a remake of the Cindy Morgan original . The project introduces a bit of humor at the end of “Who I Am” with a sound clip that sounds like the Hee Haw comedienne Minnie Pearl . Miller needs to work on targeting his pitches better on some tracks , particularly slower songs that don't lend themselves to dipping into notes like “Taking It Back.” Overall, he does a good job conveying the meaning of each lyric. His diction is very good and he sings with feeling, but he has some pitch issues on this project.

Miller performs a few story songs like “What A Mighty God Can Do.” I wish the liner notes had credited the songwriters. Lou Wills Hildreth wrote the title cut, but the other writers aren't mentioned. “Give Him The Praise” is another up-tempo number. The hymn “Coming Home” provides a nice slow contrast with good vocal harmony at the end of the CD with just an acoustic guitar for accompaniment. That arrangement has me looking forward to hearing what First Love will sound like.

I met JP last year at Crabbfest. I believe that he provided the "super-sized" Crabb suit I used during the beach party grin He is a fine feller and I wish him all God's blessings in his singing endeavors. I'm sure this is a fine project and deserves a listen!!
