After fourteen years, and who knows how many sausage & biscuits, cups of coffee, as well as donut holes, Jim Black & Breakfast Bob have announced the end of their hosting Solid Gospel Sunday mornings on the Solid Gospel Radio Network. The last show for this duo is Sunday January 31st, 2010.
It all started in 1996 when the two time Dove Award winner as “DJ of the Year” went to work for the Solid Gospel Radio Network and Black began hosting the Sunday morning air shift. The second Sunday he was there, long time friend and fellow industry associate, Bob Crawford called and said “I have to walk my dog around daybreak…what if I come out and bring you some sausage & biscuits?” Black said “come on” and the new side kick, aptly named “Breakfast Bob”, kept coming for fourteen years!
This retirement from their radio show will also mean an end to their popular monthly column “Ask Jim Black & Breakfast Bob” in the Singing News. They have announced they are in the planning stages of some new efforts that will focus on the history of southern gospel music. Podcasting and web TV are areas of future growth and are in their goals for new development. More information about that will be forthcoming.
Black states, “It’s been a wonderful experience and one that I know ‘Breakfast’ and I will have great memories from. We both just felt it was time to move in a new and different direction.” Both of them have been active in radio broadcasting for over thirty years.
