Ivan Parker - Inseparable

Producer: Ivan Parker/Geron Davis/Roger Talley
Label: Horizon Records
Website: http://www.ivanparker.com

Ivan Parker has been a mainstay in Southern Gospel Music for 25 years. It's hard to believe the first half of Ivan's music career was as a lead vocalist for the Singing Americans and Gold City and the second half has been spent as a soloist.and quite a successful one at that. Though he has been a soloist for all these many years, he has remained "inseparable" from his roots and remains to be an unbeatable force as a vocalist and musical stylist.simply put, Ivan is pure class.

Ivan starts things in high gear with the soulful feel of the Gina Vera penned, "YOU CAN'T TAKE MY CROWN". Ivan really shows off his soulful side with this latest release as several tunes fall into that feel such as "MERCY" and another Vera penned tune entitled, "ALRIGHT" (which had been recorded by the McRae's a few years ago).

One of the highlights is the title song, "INSEPARABLE", which was recorded a few years ago by Karen Peck & New River. Ivan took the song and its reassuring message and made it all his own. I can easily see this song making it to radio, as well as another splendid ballad written by Rodney Griffin entitled, "I'LL DO THE MIRACLE". This tremendous song of encouragement is written from the perspective of God speaking to us."You do what's possible, you do the praise, I'll do the miracle, I'll make the way.you put your trust in me, you keep the faith, then when you can't go on, that's when I'll do the miracle." What a promise!

Sandy Knight and Kyla Rowland tunes have always been a staple among Ivan's repertoire and this latest recording is no exception as he included their latest works, "KEEP TESTIFYING" and "DON'T GIVE UP" respectively, with the latter being a collaborative effort between Rowland and Joel Lindsey.

Producer, Geron Davis provided a couple of his own tunes including the power ballad, "HOME AT LAST" and the uptempo Southern Gospel sounding, "CAMPMEETING DAYS".

Closing things out with a wonderful spirit of worship is "THE GREAT MEDLEY", which includes "Great is Thy Faithfulness", "How Great Thou Art" and "How Great is Our God" and leaves the listener totally enveloped in worship.

I will admit, Ivan's solo recordings have always been hit or miss with me, and this one is definitely a HIT. This latest release seemed to ignite a new vigor in Ivan; maybe bringing on Geron Davis as producer was a shot in the musical arm. The vocals, song selection, arrangements and overall quality of this recording put this recording as one of the best releases for 2008.

If anyone can, please tell me when the greatest male southern gospel singer has made a bad recording. He is an awesome individual and artist! May God continue to bless his ministry.
