I've been thinking about something which I thought a pastor or preacher out there might want to take on as a topic: Why does God give some of His most precious gifts to the most cracked of His pots? Then, I happened to watch the Gaither Vocal Band reunion videos, where I heard Mark Lowry, as he has a tendency to do, nail the answer in one sentence. "Because cracked pots spill more water."
Yes, I know: God can use anyone as cracked as they are and He does. I do know that I've been used by Him to do things I couldn't have imagined. Really, there is no way I would have thought up on my own some of which has poured out of my keyboard and I am so grateful for that.
One thing we need to be mindful of is to not allow the brokenness of the cracks to overshadow the enjoyment or appreciation of the gifts.
There are occasions I see that in those who have these gifts...they push them aside or belittle them because they can't believe they are worthy of having them. It's sad when they are people who don't have a relationship with God and don't know the source of those talents, or how much God must love certain folks who are so multi-talented to have given them so many precious gifts. Instead, they choose to look at those cracks and call them imperfections, and then view themselves as too imperfect to share those gifts. How I've wished they could see themselves and their talents as God does.
I'm thankful that God uses any kind of vessel to pour out life-giving water, whether it's from a cracked pot or an intact pot. Yet, sometimes we need to resist our own urges to repair our cracks, and leave that job to the master potter who created us.
