The Harmony Quartet recently celebrated 18 years of gospel music ministry by releasing a collection of old time radio hits, entitled Take Me Back.
“We really wanted to acknowledge the music of those great old gospel radio shows of the 20’s, 30’s, 40’s (and yes even the pre television 50’s), that some of us grew up on”, remarked Dan Andrews, group founder and baritone. “Although I’m the oldest member of the group at 59, those early days of gospel radio had an everlasting effect on me personally, and the southern gospel industry as a whole. I remember visiting a relative’s farm as a small boy and watching all the farm hand’s come in at noon; wash up, turn on the radio and be treated to a huge lunch while listening to the great music of the Stamps, Blackwood’s, The Lefevres, The Speer Family or whoever else who had commandeered some soap or biscuit company to pay for radio time. Those wonderful gospel music makers became legendary through the medium of radio, and those moments of sitting around the radio golden memories.”
The project was recorded at McClain’s studio in Garland Texas, a departure from the group’s previous Nashville recording, and very simply engineered using only the singers around the piano. Traditional tunes like "Workin’ On A Building," and "Footprints of Jesus," are sprinkled among the more recognized "Crossing Chilly Jordan" and "I’ll Tell it Wherever I Go.“
The group is based in Plano, TX. http://www.harmonymusic.com
