Gordon Mote Honored At 2006 Helen Keller Festival

Nashville, TN - Multi-talented singer, songwriter and pianist, Gordon Mote was among those featured at the 28th Helen Keller Festival, which took place this past weekend, June 22-24 at Spring Park in Tuscumbia, AL. Recognized as one of the Top 100 Events in America, the Helen Keller Festival, which first began in 1979, is a tribute to the life of Alabama native Helen Keller, who became an international symbol of hope as she spent her life working to improve the conditions of the blind and deaf-blind around the world.

During Friday night’s event, following his moving performance, which delighted the crowd and received rave reviews from media in attendance, Mote was given the honor of presenting the Badge of Courage Award to local resident, Mike Hill. After presenting this prestigious award to Hill, Mote received his very own distinguished honor, as he was named as an Honorary Lifetime Board Member of the Helen Keller Festival. Like Keller, Mote is a native of Alabama and has become an inspiration to his family, peers and those who have ever had the privilege to witness his amazing musical ability. Totally blind from birth, Mote has never allowed this physical challenge to hinder him from using his God-given talent. He has become one of the most recognized studio musicians in Nashville, and has also received numerous honors and accolades for his own recordings from the Gospel Music Association and the Academy of Country Music.

In addition to performing on Friday evening, Mote also performed on Saturday for those attending the event, and was featured during a special event for the Keller Kids. Mote shared his musical talents with the Keller Kids, and also spent time answering questions and meeting the kids one-on-one. The Keller Kids is an organization comprised of school children in Northwest Alabama and surrounding areas who learn Braille and sign language.
