Gold City Honored with 7 SGN Music Award Nominations

GADSDEN, Alab. – Gold City, Southern Gospel music’s premier male quartet, was honored this week with seven SGN Music Award Nominations.

The popular quartet was nominated in the categories of Song of the Year (for “It’s Just Another Red Sea”), Album of the Year (for Heaven), Male Group of the Year, Traditional Southern Song of the Year (“It’s Just Another Red Sea”), and Traditional Southern Album of the Year (for Heaven).

Daniel Riley, baritone for the group, was honored with a second career nomination in the category of Male Vocalist of the Year (previously nominated in 2004). In addition, the producing team of Daniel & Doug Riley received their second consecutive Producer of the Year nomination.

“These nominations were based on accomplishments for the year 2005,” mentioned Deon Unthank, owner of SouthernGospelNews.com, home of the awards. “Gold City continues to receive nominations year after year. That is a testament to just how strong this group remains.”

Gold City has received a total of 27 career nominations in the SGN Music Awards. The group has won four of the awards, including last year’s wins for Male Group of the Year, Producer of the Year (Daniel & Doug Riley), and Traditional Southern Album of the Year (for First Class).

The nominees for the SGN Music Awards were chosen by the staff of SouthernGospelNews.com. Starting on February 8, 2006, the fans will get a chance to vote for their favorites in each category. On February 1, 2006, fans will also get a chance to vote for Fan Favorite Artist of the Year, a new category to the awards.

Winners of the awards will be announced at the 2006 SGN Music Awards Celebration on April 25, 2006 in Smyrna, Tennessee. Performers, hosts, sponsors and the venue for the awards celebration will be announced at a later date.

Gold City is currently preparing for the follow-up to their award winning and critically acclaimed album First Class. News on the new album will be forthcoming.

About Gold City
Since the group's formation some 25 years ago in the historical gold rush town of Dahlonega, Georgia, Gold City has consistently remained at the top of their field. Songs like "In My Robe of White," and "I Think I'll Read It Again" were immediate successes during the group's earliest years. Since then, number one plaques have continued to compete for shelf space with industry awards in the Gold City office. The group has won over 60 Singing News Fan Awards, released over 30 recordings, won the 1993 Dove Award for Southern Gospel Song of the Year, and has been a member of the Alabama Music Hall of Fame since 1992.
