Eighth Day– Eighth Day

Producer: Eighth Day
Label:
Pilgrim Records
Website: www.eighthdaymusic.com

I must say that I am thoroughly impressed with this South Carolina group and their sound. The main singer in the group, Joni Robinson, looks like Lori Sykes (bass player for the Crabb Family) but sounds like Karen Peck. She has a little more of a breathy tone than Peck, and I must say that Joni Robinson is really a great singer, as she is the basis for the groups sound.

The tender, “HEAVEN BECAME” gets the recording started and offers comfort that when our saved loved ones pass on, it makes Heaven more real and sweeter to us. Things kick into high gear with “DRINK FROM HIM”, which was previously recorded by Karen Peck & New River on their first national recording almost 15 years ago. Eighth Day does a good job here.

Formerly recorded by the Dixie Echoes a few years ago and penned by Rodney Griffin, “WHAT GOD SAYS” offers words of faith that whatever God says, we know it is best for us.

The group's current single is the song, “WALK ON WATER” and this song offers somewhat of a “new grass” flavoring with some Cajun stylings and is a highlight of the recording. Things kick back into high gear with the uptempo, “HE'LL HOLD MY HAND”.

You'll never look at the threads of a tapestry the same way again after listening to “THREADS”. What a profound message in song that though so many times we only see the individual “threads” in our lives, the Master sees the whole tapestry and how the threads of our lives weaves into a marvelous masterpiece.

“DON'T YOU WANNA GO?” is a cool uptempo bluegrass tinged song that doesn't even come close to resembling the Crabb Family hit, which is a good thing.

A wonderful song of invitation is found in the song “GO TO THE CROSS” urging all who are lost or hurting, to “go to the cross and He will meet you there.”

The easy flowing shuffle beat of “HEAVEN'S LAMB” leads perfectly into the closing song entitled, “THE BOOK”.

The group has a very warm and inviting sound. This recording is a little country, a lot of Southern and chock full of very strong and meaningful songs. That is one of the strongest points with this group…their songs. They seem to have a real knack for finding great songs and they sing them very well. My major complaint with the recording is there is no information other than songwriting credits with the recording. No credits to the musicians, engineer, recording studio, etc. There is not even a picture of the group, although I do think the cover art is pretty cool. But outside of that, this is really an excellent recording and to my knowledge, this is their first release. This group is definitely worth your time looking into and discovering their music.

Personal Favs: HEAVEN BECAME; DRINK FROM HIM; WALK ON WATER; HE'LL HOLD MY HAND; THREADS; GO TO THE CROSS

"Walk on the Water" is one of my favorite songs in the current rotation on our Southern Gospel Station. Eighth Day is an awesomely annointed group!
