Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver - Help is on the Way

Producer: Doyle Lawson
Label: Horizon Records
Website: http://www.doylelawson.com

I've said it numerous times when I've reviewed recordings from the bluegrass genre; it just isn't my cup of tea. But I do know good music when I hear it, and this latest effort by the legendary Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver is just that.good music. No matter who is singing on the front lines as Quicksilver, Doyle Lawson always manages to have a classy group of guys who know how to do their thing and continue the great tradition Lawson started many years ago.

The uptempo, "I KNOW, I KNOW" gets things off to a great start before slowing things down for the title song, "HELP IS ON THE WAY". This song has created quite buzz on radio, and rightfully so; it's a great song with a wonderful reassuring message that if we'll just "hold on a little longer, help is on the way."

One thing I've noticed with Doyle Lawson's music; they sing songs that contain very strong messages such as "ETERNITY HAS TWO", which reminds us that "this life has many choices, eternity has two". Other songs that fall into a similar vein with thought provoking lyrics are the heartfelt, "GOD IS LOVE" along with "I'M CLAY IN YOUR HANDS", and "WHAT SHALL I DO WITH JESUS".

As typical for bluegrass, there plenty fiddle flying, banjo picking, guitar strumming tunes like "ONE OF THESE DAYS", "WHEN THE HAND OF GOD COMES DOWN" and "PRESS ON O' PILGRRIM, THERE IS JOY AHEAD". Also, no bluegrass recording would be complete without an acapella song, and "HE MADE IT ALL RIGHT" fits the bill perfectly before the classic, "KEEP YOUR EYES ON JESUS" closes out the recording quite appropriately.

From the few recordings I've heard by Doyle Lawson & Quicksilver, I'd have to say this ranks as their best work. While 14 songs may be a bit much for me to handle as far as the style goes, the recording is a top notch piece of work. I am a firm believer that these guys are the best the bluegrass genre has to offer. They continually give the fans what they want, and their music is a class act all the way.

One of the best Gospel Bluegrass albums you will ever hear! Great picking and great harmony like only Doyle and the boys can do.
