Dottie Rambo was, and will always be, a legend in Southern Gospel music. Her songwriting and vocal abilities put her on the charts and in the hearts of people, time and time again. I strive to be a songwriter like Miss Dottie was. I’m pretty sure every song on this project was written by Miss Rambo.
Things start off with, “I’ve Never Been This Homesick Before”. I love this song. My mom is one of the biggest Dottie Rambo fans you’ll ever meet, and this is one of her favorite Dottie songs. We still occasionally sing it in services. It’s an oldie but a goody. “If That Isn’t Love” is next. This song has so many good comparisons in it. It’s a neat concept. Cut number 3 is, “New Shoes”. This one picks up the pace. I like this song. I actually just heard this song on the radio the other day by a quartet. She put such emotion in her songs. That’s awesome! That’s why her songs went over so well, because she meant what she sang and wrote about. “Tiny” slows things back down. This is a sweet song. It will definitely bring tears to your eyes. There’s such a great story in this song.
“Sheltered in The Arms Of God”, is a classic in Southern Gospel music. I was singing this song the other day while sitting in my room. It is such an encouraging and comforting song. Thank the Lord we are sheltered in His arms, no matter what may come our way. This next song, “Who’s Gonna Teach My Children’s Children” has a medium tempo. There’s a good message in this song. We need to stand up for what we believe and teach our children what’s right. Number seven on the CD is, “Remind Me Dear Lord”. It slows things back down. Mel Tillis helped Dottie out on this one. What great words. We all need to be reminded sometimes where the Lord has brought us from and where we could have been if it wasn’t for Him. “I Just Came To Talk With You Lord” keeps things slow. Sometimes we just need to talk with the Lord, without asking Him for anything. This song explains just that. It says in a nutshell, Lord, you’ve done so much for me. I’ve just come to talk with you now, without asking you for a thing. We should all do that more than we do.
The tempo picks up a little with, “Build My Mansion”. This song has been around forever. My mom and grandmother used to sing this when I was younger. This is a great old song. “I Go To The Rock” picks the pace back up. I love the piano and organ on this track. Her voice sounds tired on this particular song, but it’s still good. Cut number eleven on the CD is, “Holy Spirit Thou Art Welcome”. Miss Lulu Roman helped her out on the last chorus of the song. It’s amazing to hear these songs and recognize just about every one of them. She was such a prolific songwriter. My home church sings this chorus during praise and worship. It a good song to set the mood for worship. She ends things up with, “I Will Glory In The Cross”. This is another great song. What a great way to end the CD. Awesome!
You can tell that this project was done in Miss Rambo’s older age. She could still get the message out, though. She did a pretty durn good job singing at her age. She had a voice that you can recognize a mile away. She had a way of putting everything she had into every song she sang. Her songs will be sung forever. I believe this was one of Dottie’s last recordings before her death. It is a great memorable CD to have in anyone’s collection. I give it 5 stars.
