Matt 14:27 Be of good cheer, It is I; be not afraid
These are the words spoken to Peter just before he stepped out of the boat and walked on water.
Josh. 1:9 Be not afraid, neither be dismayed: for the Lord thy God is with thee withersoever thou goest
At the same time Joshua was commissioned to cross over the Jordan and possess the land of Promise, he was told not to fear.
God told Mary "fear not" in Luke 1:30 as she learned that she would give birth to the son of God. From cover to cover of the Bible, men and women were told not to fear. Matter of fact, I recently learned that the phrases "do not fear," "fear not," and "be not afraid" are listed 365 times in the Bible. One for every day of the year. Why is it so important that the Lord would repeat this same message over and over again? Because He knows that fear is the greatest weapon that Satan has to use against us. Fear of failure, rejection, persecution, ect... If Satan can't get us to completely turn our back on God, his next tactic is fear. If he can make us afraid of something or someone, we'll do less than what God said to do. This is called compromise. Mediocrity.
What is fear preventing you from doing, saying, accomplishing? Are you walking in God's calling on your life? Do you still dream about your future? Are you a visionary? Or has fear stolen that from you.
In Acts 2 the Lord invited 500 people to go to the Upper Room. Fear of the unknown and being mocked held most of them back. Only 120 actually waited for the real experience.
Goliath mocked the Israelite army for 40 days before they found only one man brave enough to rise to the challenge.
Find out what is holding you back. I'll bet the root of it is fear. People that suffer from depression are fearful. Those that have a difficult time loving or trusting are afraid of rejection or being hurt. Fear of failure will cause us to turn our backs on our dreams.
What are you going to do this year that fear prevented you from doing last year? Identify it, then expose it -- it will lose it's validity in the light.
2 Timothy 1:7 For God hath not given us the spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.
This tells me that until we get rid of the fear, we can't walk in power or victory, our capacity to love will be diminished, and our mind will not function properly. I have witnessed this firsthand in my family. Fear has slowly consumed the life of my sister. This intelligent, attractive lady is no longer capable of functioning in society. She suffers from a chemical imbalance which is being corrected with medication. The Doctors have helped her physically, but they offer no hope for this spirit of fear that torments her. She is not able to work or live on her own. Her depression gets so severe that she is bed-ridden at times. Yes, she has a physical condition but we are told that as long as she is on the medication, she will be fine. She has been on the medication for 8 years. So how come she is locked away in her room at this very moment, robbed of relationships, a career, a life, and joy? Fear is a weapon of torture, and allowed to continue it begins to control our actions, our mind, our life. Most individuals will never get to the point my sister has but if fear is robbing us of anything it has a foothold in our lives and it's time to get rid of it.
Wanna know something funny? I was afraid to write this article. I had another topic outlined but the Lord kept impressing me to write this. Which lets me know that someone needs to hear this and receive this. Is it you?
If we conquer the fear, we conquer the enemy.
And remember, Satan only messes with those he's threatened by.
