Dale and Cheryl Golden - Hymns of Gold 1

Label- Sounds of Gold Music
Producer- Dale and Cheryl Golden
Website- http://www.daleandcherylgolden.com

Dale and Cheryl Golden have produced a new project featuring 20 of the all time favorite hymns. This couple from Texas won the 2004 Diamond Award for Duet of the Year.

They kick this project off with a great old song, “Jesus Hold My Hand”, complete with some old style, Chet Atkins guitar and a shuffle beat. “The Life Boat” is done with a touch of Bluegrass. “He Leadeth Me” is a beautiful old hymn that Cheryl does a great job on.

A hymns project is not complete without “How Great Thou Art”. Dale takes the lead on this great song. “The Love of God” is another wonderful hymn. The track on this cut is simple with just an acoustic guitar and some strings. “God Will Take Care of You” keeps the tempo down and features some pretty harmonies.

“Powerful Blood Medley” gets the shuffle beat going again and includes some great old favorites, including, “There Is a Fountain”, “Nothing But the Blood”, “Are You Washed In the Blood”, and “Power In the Blood”. One of my early childhood memories is watching the Gospel Singing Jubilee and hearing the Florida Boys sing this next great song, “More about Jesus”. Dale does a powerful job on the lead vocals on this one.

“Near to the Heart of God” features Cheryl. She has a very soft, pleasing voice that fits this song perfectly. I recently heard the story of this next old classic on a Gaither video.

“I’d Rather Have Jesus”, written by George Beverly Shea and Rhea Miller is an all time great Gospel song. “I Want to Know More” takes me back to the singing conventions that I attended as a child. This great old song picks the tempo up and is a hand clapper.

Elmer Cole is sometimes overlooked when we talk about modern era song writers, but his song, “Ten Thousand Years” could very well be one of the greatest songs of the ‘70s. “Rock of Ages” is a standard of the church. They have picked the tempo up a little on this song and added a Country beat to it to freshen it up. “I Saw the Cross of Jesus” slows the tempo back down and is another laid back old hymn with some pretty harmony.

“I Cannot Find the Way” is another ballad that features Dale. This track has some pretty chord progressions and orchestration. “Pass Me Not” is one of the most beloved altar call songs. They sing this song with a Bluegrass feel to it. Dale and Cheryl have included another great medley on this project featuring, “Unclouded Day”, “In the Sweet Bye and Bye”, and “When the Roll is Called Up Yonder”. This song has some good Texas twin fiddles and is a great medley. “My Jesus I Love Thee” is just a pretty melody. Cheryl and Dale sing it well. “I Must Tell Jesus” is a powerful song that features Dale. “What a Friend We Have in Jesus” is done with a Country feel to it. This song fits Cheryl’s voice well.

This is one of the best hymn projects that I’ve heard in a long time. The vocals were strong, the harmonies were tight and the arrangements stayed true to the songs and were done tastefully. I am anxious to hear this couple do some original material because I’m sure it will be really good. If you like the old songs, you need to investigate this project. I found myself singing along quite often.

Dale and Cheryl are two of our favorite vocal artists. Their music flows like water and speaks to your soul.

They have taken 20 "old" hymns and given them a fresh sound. You won't be disappointed in this album.
