Charlotte Ritchie – Closer

Producer: Michael Sykes/David Ponder
Label: RSI Music Group
Website: www.rsimusicgroup.com

Charlotte Ritchie is one of the true sweethearts of gospel music and has the voice of an angel. I have followed Charlotte 's music career since she first joined the Nelons back about a dozen or so years ago. I liked her singing so much, that I even had her do some background vocals on a solo recording I did back in 1995. In 1998, Charlotte released her own solo recording and while it was good, I don't think it fully showcased what she could do vocally and musically. Now 7 years later, the diva has arrived! Showcasing soaring vocals, heartfelt melodies and a strong progressive sound, this is the next of hopefully many more solo recordings from this great artist.

Starting the recording off is a sermon in song called “BOOMERANG” penned by Sonya and Ben Isaacs. I love what the song says, “Watch what do and watch what you say, that boomerang is coming back your way…watch where you throw that boomerang.” A lot of people could learn a few things by listening to this song.

Slowing things down is the tender ballad, “LEANING ON THE ROCK THAT NEVER ROLLS”, which would be a good single to Southern Gospel radio. In contrast, we come to the upbeat Contemporary sounds of “YOU ARE WITH ME”.

The mesmerizing tune, “I AM HOLDING YOU” is followed by the reflective “IF THESE WALLS COULD SPEAK”, which is about the only song on this recording that really just doesn't work for me. Its message is quite intriguing though.

“BACK TO TRUST” is an honest song about how sometimes in our time of doubt, we need to go back to the simple trust in a Heavenly Father who can lift us from those depths of fear and doubt. “GOOD TO ME” , written in part by David Phelps, is a cool Inspirational tune that will no doubt be a favorite of many.

The current single release, “DRAW ME CLOSER” , was written by Sheri Easter and is par for course to what most would probably expect from Charlotte , while “LORD OF ALL” offers a more Inspirational/Praise & Worship feel.

The closing tune, “YOU COULD HARDLY RECOGNIZE ME” is a fun, feel good song that a lot of people will really enjoy.

Charlotte has an exceptional recording and it is totally different than I expected from her. I will admit that it took a few listens for this to really grow on me. Now since it's grown on me, I love it! Slick music tracks, great vocals and superior quality all the way around are what you'll find here. My only gripe is that I think there are too many slow songs. Out of the 10 songs, there are only 3 that I would consider upbeat. But all in all, it just can't get much better than this!

Personal Favs: BOOMERANG; LEANING ON THE ROCK THAT NEVER ROLLS; YOU ARE WITH ME; I AM HOLDING YOU; DRAW ME CLOSER; YOU COULD HARDLY RECOGNIZE ME

I have to say, I have been a fan of Charlotte's since I first heard her with the Nelons. She is a lovely lady with one of the sweetest voices in the industry. I can't wait to hear her new CD.

Charlotte is one talented lady. We have enjoyed her since first seeing her with the Nelons. She certainly has added to Jeff and Sheri's performances.
    The new release is great!!!

Sorry but I think fans have her a little over rated then again there isn't much good talent in gospel music anymore.

What do you consider as good talent? I went to the site listed on this review and listened to her music. I think she has great talent.

You are probably family. I didn't say she was horrible just a little over rated but I went on to compare with the gospel singers of today she is about the best there is.

No John, I am not in her family, that is to say not biological on related by the blood of christ. I really had not heard of this lady at all until I saw this review.

You haven't heard to much about her because she has moreless been a back up singer for Sheri and Jeff Easter. In which in most people's opinion they wish she would get more solos so she can sing a little more and her talent not be wasted on a just being a back up singer. But welcome to the world of gospel singers who are afraid to give anyone a bigger part than theirs in fear they would lose the attention.

Charlotte has a BEAUTIFUL voice. I discovered her through Jeff & Sheri Easter since I am a huge forever fan of theirs. At a recent Gaither Homecoming, I bought her new album. I was very disappointed!! I was expecting a southern gospel album. My opinion is this: The album was a waste of beautiful talent. If she produces a southern gospel album, I will buy.
