Brian & Angela Monehan – This is the Place

Producer: Janton Barrineau
Label:
Independent Release
Website: www.brianandangelamonehan.com

Many people will remember Angela from her years with the Perry Sisters and Brian from his days with the Kevin Spencer Family. A few years ago they married and both came off the road for a time. Now living in Arkansas and pastoring a church there, they have joined their voices together to create this recording, which is a true labor of love for them both, as they both wrote all the songs on this recording and for the most part are very well written.

Though many times Heaven seems so far away, the opening song, “FROM HERE TO THERE” reminds that it really isn't that far from here to our Heavenly Home. The song is one of the highlights on this recording, as are “WHAT A FRIEND”, “THIS IS THE PLACE” (a really awesome song!), “LOOK AT THE SCARS” (another awesome song), “THE GRIP OF HIS GRACE”, “GOD HAS KEPT US TOGETHER” and “BEYOND THE REACH OF HIS HAND” (love this one too!).

Other songs include “THE BLOOD HAS BEEN APPLIED”, “I'M GONNA FLY” and the uptempo “LOOK WHAT GOD IS DOING”.

Brian and Angela compliment each other very well. As they do all the vocals, including background vocals, they provide a very nice vocal bed for the lead vocals to shine. The overall quality of the recording is adequate. I would love to hear them in a different environment and with the right producer they really could make some heads turn with their music. Their style has a Southern Gospel base, but they broaden the spectrum just a bit with some of their musical arrangements. I like what I hear, and hope to hear more from them soon. Musically, there is a ton of potential and vocally, they can definitely tote the mail. Overall, this is a good effort.

I had the chance to hear Brian & Angela's project a few months back. Excelent project. I think you'll be hearing a lot more from this very talented couple.
