Billy Todd is Retiring, Dixie Echoes Seeking a Bass Singer

Billy Todd, our bass singer for the past 8 years, and known by many from his many years with the Florida Boys from the 50's, 60's, and 70's, has announced his retirement in the month of September 2004.

On Sept 26, he will turn 75 years old, and has been singing for nearly 60 years, and he has decided that he wants to stay home with his wife Jane. He says that they have been talking about it for a while, and they are ready to settle into retirement together.

We will miss Billy and wish him the best, he is one of my best friends and I have enjoyed traveling with him and hearing his stories of the road.

If you know of any bass singers looking to travel full time, have them send a demo asap to: Dixie Echoes - 481 Ronda Street - Pensacola, FL 32534. Billy will remain with us until we find someone, but he is hoping to start staying home in September.

Anyone wishing to contact Billy may send him mail to: Billy Todd - 301 North Stillman - Pensacola, FL 32505.

He has meant a lot to many folks over the years, and I'm sure that he would love to hear from you. Please keep the Dixie Echoes in your prayers, as it will be hard to fill the shoes of a Legend!

God Bless,
Stewart Varnado

I hate to hear of another legend that is leaving the industry. As the George Jones song says "Who's Gonna Fill Their Shoes?" There is great new talent on the way up, but I still worry about our good ole southern gospel music. Good luck Billy!

this is truly sad. with the retiring of 2 of the world's greatest bass singers. first Tim Riley, and now Billy Todd. but....we need to move on. these 2 men have given their all to the cause of Christ, and they have more than earned this time to now sit back and relax. i am grateful to hear that Tim will still travel from time to time, and that it's not a "complete" retirement. but still, these 2 men are wonderful men of God and we will always love them and pray for them. i know that they have impacted me greatly. Tim, Billy; i love you guys very much. i love your hearts, and your dedication. may God richly bless you in whatever you do, and wherever you go.

Even in retirement, the memories of past experiences and fellowship will linger. God continue to bless you and Jane. Retired but not forgotten.

It's a shame that he wants to retire but at least now the torch can be passed. I am a bass singer myself,non-professinal of course,it is a great gift to sing for the Lord

Thanks to God for giving Billy his wonderful Bass voice and thanks to Billy for using it for the Lord for so many years. Also I am thankful for all the recordings I have that he is on, so I can go on enjoying hearing him for the rest of my years. Will miss seeing him in person thought. God Bless you Billy and enjoy your much deserved retirement.
