Big Mo continues to be one of my favorite soloists. There's a real sincerity that comes forth from him in a live setting that really connects with people. He has a great ability to tell a story - and much of that comes forth in his songwriting. All of that is very clear on Big Mo's latest release Remember Me.
The album kicks off with the ballad "Three Days" before kicking into gear with the radio-friendly "King's Table." "Remember Me" is a country ballad that showcases Mo's soulful vocals. "Bigger The Battle" is a straight up country barn-burner with some really impressive fiddle fills throughout. "If He Moved the Mountain" has a nice inspirational feel, while "Uphill All the Way" feels like it was taken directly from Christian inspirational radio in the 1980's. It's a style that fits Big Mo very well.
"The Funeral of Jesus" closes the album. This much talked-about-song has already found its way on to the Singing News Top 40 and is destined to be Mo's biggest hit to date. I'm not a huge fan of the narrative kind of song like this, but many people really enjoy that kind of song.
Overall, Remember Me is another great record from one of Southern Gospel's most prolific songwriters. One has to wonder what kind of project Big Mo could make with a bigger budget, A-level players, and an award-winning producer. Big Mo's a great songwriter and strong vocalist, and Remember Me helps show off those two aspects of his ministry.
