Ball Brothers – The Ball Brothers

Producer:  Wayne Haun/Brian Hudson
Label:  Permanent Records
Website:  www.theballbrothers.com

There really seems to be an influx of some really great new groups here lately like the Crist Family, Dills, Soul’d Out Quartet, Crystal River and others.  Now I add the Ball Brothers to that list.  Classy, exciting and solid are three words I’d use to describe the Ball Brothers; who consist vocally of Andrew, Stephen and Daniel Ball.  They’re young and vibrant, and there’s no place but up for these guys.

The highly energetic, “I’M ALREADY LIVING FOREVER” gets the recording off to a great start before things slow down for the lush sounds of “PEACE OF GOD”, which features some really cool modern harmony; extremely reminiscent to the Goss Brothers from the mid 1960s.  This song will make the most adamant quartet purist drool.

Going from traditional to more CCM, the brothers do an excellent job on the now CCM classic, Greg Long penned, “MERCY SAID NO” before turning in another beautifully orchestrated tune with the more traditional sounding, “A BLESSING BURDEN-BEARING GOD”.  Penned by Dianne Wilkinson, this peppy song will surely become a favorite of many, as will the tender, “THE GOOD SIDE OF GOODBYE”.  Things then move on the fun big band sounds of the jazzy, “ALRIGHT, ALRIGHT, ALRIGHT”, penned by songwriting duo Wayne Haun and Joel Lindsey.

I have always enjoyed acapella singing, but find that many times it just doesn’t keep my attention, but the guys kept my attention with their acapella performance of “JOHN THE BAPTIST”.

Written by brother Andrew, the group turns in a great performance on the uptempo, “I WONDER” before slowing things down with haunting “EVEN UNTO THE END”, which features a very entrancing music track and oddly enough, sounds like something the Beatles would have done if they sang gospel.  The song leads very well into the final song entitled, “THE CORONATION MEDLEY”, which, done completely acapella, includes “Crown Him with Many Crowns”, “Weaver of Worlds” & “All Hail the Power of Jesus’ Name”.

These guys are simply amazing.  Producer, Wayne Haun really brought out the best in them and for those who aren’t familiar with them, this is an excellent introduction to the Ball Brothers to Southern Gospel fans everywhere.  Everybody put your shades on…the future is very bright for the Ball Brothers.

Personal Favs:   I’M ALREADY LIVING FOREVER; PEACE OF GOD; A  BLESSING BURDEN-BEARING GOD; THE GOOD SIDE OF GOODBYE; I WONDER
