I just stumbled upon this website the other day and I am very impressed. How long has this been here? I wish all websites could be this professional and informative. Some artist websites I view look like they were made by kindergaters and never update anything. They need to take a look here.

I was wondering if their was anyway you could help me find out where Terry Terrell will be singing in the next couple months. I heard him sing a few weeks ago and I just love his music. My entire family does. I have tried his website and I keep getting nothing. I might have the wrong website. If you could help me I would appreciate it. Thanks, Amanda

I love your web-page. I am disappointed though that you've allowed the comments to become a sounding board and gripe session.

It doesn't promote the love of Christ and just shows the division that is within the industry.

Olease prayerfully consider removing this option from your stories and news releases so that it will not be a stumbling block to others.

"By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another."

  14.    .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) ~ 12/11/2002

Thank you for your comments. Fortunately most comments are positive, however, from time to time there are negative posts. We do not feel that a negative opinion necessarily promotes division, but instead can be used positively to provide helpful attention to areas within the industry that may benefit from change. We encourage people to express their opinions. We do, however, ask that opinoins be expressed without personal affronts or attacks. We realize this is not always the case and we make every effort to monitor opinions and discussion so as to remove rumor, gossip or innuendo.

Thank you for taking time to express your opinion.

    God Bless,

I would like to put out a thought and see what the response would be.
I am an absolute lover of our genre of music; have been since I first heard the Kingsmen's "Excuses" and "More Excuses" when I was 15.
I must admit that I am more partial to quartets, but I am also a lover of many mixed groups (ie. Hinsons, Crabbs, Nelons, New River, and many more).
    Now, my thought:
Eddie Crook (and his staff) has brought some wonderful talent into our industry and has himself brought a level of professionalism to the stage through his time with the Goodmans. I give a lot of credit to his accomplishments.
However, I also feel that a lot of the blame for the lack of talent in our industry must also be laid at his feet.
It seems as though many of the worst sounding groups that we've had have come from his labels.
Now, right about now some of you are hanging me in effigy and are trying desperately to break down my front door, but hear me out.
Do you realize how difficult it is to be a fan of Southern Gospel Music when our most prestigious awards are presented to men and women who literally cannot stay on pitch and whose pronounciation of certain words (ie. Heaven/HeaVUN, Jesus/JEEEHHZus) make us look and sound like a second rate industry.
I know that this sounds rough, and it used to bug me to read what Roy Pauley would say in the Singing News; but, to be honest with myself, Roy was right about 99% of the time. We need, NO, we MUST have a higher standard in the material that is produced and promoted through the radio and other media.
PLEASE, do not judge me too harshly. I, too, have traveled for many years as a tenor with various groups in North & South Carolina. I am a HUGE fan and will continue to be and it is for this reason that I write this letter.
If our industry is to make it much longer, then we've got to take our material up a notch or two or three.
Kudos to groups like the Dove Brothers, the Carolina Boys, Gold City, the Crabbs, and others too many to name who are pushing for a higher standard in their quality.
I'd pay a lot of $$$ to hear quality, but I wouldn't walk through my back door to hear some of the mess that we've got on our airwaves.
    Sorry so long,
    Me

  18.    .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) ~ 12/26/2002

I am responding to the letter from "Me" dated Dec. 20, 2002. I must say that I have to agree with a lot of statements that he made. There are many, many second class groups (full-time & part-time) in our industry today. I, myself, sing in a local gospel group and would NEVER settle for a second rate sound or a second rate witness for Jesus Christ. So, please, don't criticize his letter.

Just a remembrance, but isnt this area of the site suppose to be letters to the editor...giving them comments and suggestions and kudos for a good job? If so please make your thoughts or comments in the Message Boards area. I am sure that this would help them out very much!. Thanks from "Me II"

    Hello
Have you heard of the Crossbridge Quartet?
I heard them a few days ago and they are awesome. It is my understanding that they are a new group out of Desoto County MS. I Know they have one CD out. If you ever get a chance to do an article on them Their phone number is 662-429-7393. They give Glory to GOD for their talents and songs.

Thought you may want to know about them. I believe they will do very well in Southern Gospel Music.

Thanks for a great website. I have been having problems accessing the fan chart. I was also hoping that it would be a top 10 or 20 based chart, not simply "fans voted this song #1".

I JUST WANTED TO WRITE THIS NOTE, NOT IN ANGER OR MALICE, BUT I AM CONCERNED WITH THE RECENT PROLIFERATION OF SONGS,(SOME FROM MY FAVORITE GROUPS) THAT HAVE SUCH A ROCK SOUND. I AM CONCERNED WITH MUSIC THAT GETS MY FEET TAPPING BEFORE TOUCHING MY HEART. I HOPE THIS IS A TEMPORARY TREND, AND NOT THE DIRECTION OF SOUTHERN GOSPEL.

  39.    .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) ~ 02/13/2003

lol Did you say rock? There's rock in southern gospel music? You obviously haven't heard ROCK music as of late. Besides, is there something wrong with one tapping their foot to the rhythm of the music?

I'm having trouble (and I see I'm not alone) with voting in the fan chart. I can log in fine, but when I try to vote, it tells me I must be logged in! Is this problem getting corrected or are we doing something wrong?! Thanks for your help!

Hi jt! I would first suggest that you clean the cache and history of your internet browser. If you do not know how to do this, your help file should be able to tell you. After doing this reboot, then try it again.

If that doesn't help, feel free to email me at .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) and we'll try to figure it out! wink

QUOTED: "Thanks for a great website. I have been having problems accessing the fan chart. I was also hoping that it would be a top 10 or 20 based chart, not simply "fans voted this song #1".

REPLY: The chart is a Top 20 Chart. The fan votes are added to the radio charts and the chart is then compiled. Fan votes make up 40% of the vote and radio charts make up 60% of the vote. The line that mentions the "fans voted this song #1" is just a courtesy mentioning what song was voted fo the most by the fans.

    Jason,

Thanks for the compliments. The news item section renews itself every three days as news changes. You can always find a listing of the news items by clicking on the link at the bottom of the News & Scoops section called:
    More News and Scoops
    http://sogospelnews.com/scoops/scoops.php

That section isn't any smaller, it's just that the news for the last 3 days hasn't been as much as in the past. It happens like that sometimes. smile

Have you heard the new radio release "IT WON'T TREMBLE" by Bill Monaghan? It was wriiten by Larry Petree and it is on the Three Hills Music Group volume V radio comp. just out. It has a great message. Phone 662-256-4138 for details.

Yes, I have heard the new radio release "IT WON'T TREMBLE" by Bill Monaghan from Amory MS!!! Many of my friends have heard the wonderful message as well!! My home town is Amory MS and Bill Monaghan has several cd's out with Three Hills Music Group and is spreading Gods word all over the southeast. I really hope my dad, Bill Monaghan, continues to be successful in bringing people to the Lord through his music ministry!!! Remember, all you need is God in your heart and he will show you the way, the truth, and the light. It only takes one to get the word of GOD going and with the support, that my dad Mr. Bill Monaghan has, the hand of GOD will touch many hearts!!! I am very proud of you dad and I hope for continued success in spreading the word of GOD!

I wonder why the return, or should that be continuation, of Tim Greene's mold problem is such a non-news item.Nothing here, nothing at Scott Evans' SG Music Forum. If it wasn't for subscribers to gaithernet.com and The Gospel Greats,I would not have heard about it.Is it because he claimed a healing a litttle too quickly?

  56.    Amy Marie ~ 03/22/2003

    Bill,

We can only post news in which we receive from Tim or his family. We have not received any news as of today regarding his present physical condition.

  57.    .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) ~ 03/25/2003

I remember when Tim Surrett married Sonya Issacs and he initially sang with the Issacs. Then he moved to the Carolina Boys. Are they still husband and wife? I have seen the Issacs in concert twice this year but no mention of Tim. Just wondering.

    Dear Editors,
I have not been able to access your message boards, so I will send you a reply that I recently posted on Gaithernet to the questions concerning my involvement in a "Pray For Peace" rally in February. I would so appreciate it if you would post it in the appropriate space. Hope this clears things up. Thanks guys, you have a great site! Russ Taff

    "Russ at a Peace Rally?!"

    Hey guys,
Thought I'd take a minute to clear up a few of the rumors swirling around me this week... Gee, that'll teach me to leave town-- I take my family to Disney World and when I come back I find out I've apparently turned into Jane Fonda! ("Hanoi Jane", not the Exercise Jane).
So here's what really happened: On February 21st, my friend and pastor Becca Stevens asked me to join her husband Marcus Hummon to sing a song at an interfaith "Pray For Peace" rally in Nashville. Marcus and I had cowritten a song called "Back Into Grace" that I recorded on my "Right Here Right Now" cd, and she asked if we would sing it after she spoke. (The song, by the way, doesn't have anything to do with war-- it's about God's amazing grace, for cryin' out loud!)
I have never been to a peace rally before, though obviously like most people of faith on February 21st I was definitely hoping against hope there would be a peaceful resolution in Iraq, that the weapons inspectors would be able to do their jobs and Saddam would disarm and avoid war. My dad served in WWII, and I had two brothers who fought in Viet Nam, so I know first-hand how high the cost of freedom can be. The rally was interesting-- some things I agreed with, and some I didn't, but it was very comforting to see people from all different denominations and walks of life join together to pray for the country we love. I sang my song, listened to a couple of speakers and ducked out early. (For the record: There was absolutely NO MENTION of Palestine at any time-- how this got characterized as a 'pro-Palestinean rally, I'll never know!) And that was the end of the story, until apparently a slightly different and more colorful version appeared on a website somewhere.
For the record: I support President Bush. I support every man and woman serving in our armed forces. I support Israel. And I still "Pray For Peace", every day-- I truly hope all of you do as well.
    Love, Russ
    P. S. (I also support the spaying and neutering of pets too, but we can debate that another day!) q`

    Dear Russ Taff

I have not heard about the rumors, but I can say from the ministry that I have felt from listening to you all my life, you are chosen by God. If someone wants to start telling rumors and lies on you.....they will just have to take it up with God.

God won't let it get far.

Keep up the good work Russ. BTW good to see you back with a quartet.

Christian greetings from SC. I have been browsing your web page & links for several months, and I have a need that you may be able to help me with. I started a SG radio program on WKDK, Newberry, SC, 6/1/03 on Sunday Mornings that is pre-recorded, and need CD's. Do I call record companies and just ask them to provide product? I manage and sing with a SG regional group and our record company, Lamp Music Group, has provided some CD's. Thx in advance for any help.

I went to the Louisville convention ,my first. and was hooked! Bought 15 cd's and listened to them all the way home.
Question- during the after noon session on Friday there was a tribute to ?? and there was a song by a bass singer that was beautiful!
Being a newcomer I don't know who the tribute was to or the name of the singer but I would like to get a copy of the song he sang.

Just wondering what is happening to the website? Some days it looks like I remember it, and some days it looks completely different. Everything is still on the page, but it's re-arranged somewhat. I sorta feel like I am hunting for what I want to read.
Not complaining------just wondering what's going on.

James Hales's avatar I am one of the staff members for SoGospelNews. The message boards have been down since late yesterday. Susan Unthank has been in the hospital battling pneumonia. She has physical problems that limit her lung capacity and what was a small cold and developed into a case of pneumonia.

Please keep her in prayer. I have made the family aware about the boards, but I do know their mom/wife takes precidence.

Hopefully, she will be able to come home in the next day or so. If I can get an update, I will post it here.

    Thanks for praying everyone!
    James Hales

Mr. James Hales, thanks for the update. Susan is in my prayers. I can only imagine how rough it must be for Susan right now. My daughter has asthma, and it hurts me to see her struggle for air. Pneumonia must be even worse.
    Please keep us updated.
    Thanks,
    Chuck

    Hello everyone...

I know the message boards are up and down today...but I wanted to post an update on mom. We are working on the server problem..but it may be tomorrow before it's totally fixed. However, the main page should be accessible.

Mom is doing better, however she's still not out of the woods yet. She has color in her face finally and is breathing a little better. They have her taking treatments and on oxygen for most of the day. She is very weak and TIRED. She hasn't slept in about 4 days. She gets coughing spells in the night and sleeps maybe 15 minutes an hour, if that. She doesn't eat much because she's so tired. Someone has to be with her at all times.

Other than that...we are taking it one day at a time.

Please continue to pray...we all need strength and rest!!

Thank you for your continued support!!
    The Unthank Family

We are indeed sorry to hear of Susan's illness. We are praying for a quick and complete recovery. Our prayers include the family as well.

This site is great! Sure hope you can help.
I've been searching all over trying to find the answer to my question...What ever happened to Lanny Wolf or the Trio? He wrote so many great gospel songs, one which was "Surely the Presence."
    Thanks,
    Have a great weekend!

  92.    .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) ~ 08/28/2004

I recently saw Lanny Wolf in a trio or group on some t.v. program. This is a bit of trivia - there was an article in the paper here some months back about a young man who is white and he is the music director at a local black church. It mentioned that his assistant was one of Lanny Wolf's daughters.

I promoted the concert in Maryville Tennessee that DeeAnn Bailey wrote about. Thank you so much for printing her very good article. It was truly a memorable weekend.

this is to all southern gospel singers are there any singers that still go into the small country churches for love offerings instead of charging 3000.00 or 4000.00 just to say they will come there are so many places in louisiana that would love to have you come including the church that i attend i am the song director and i would love to see some of you guys contact me hey guys the lord is coming soon and we need to reach out to the small churches as well as the big times this is not a business your in its the ministry to proclaim that jesus christ is still the king of kings and the lord of lords and that there is hope we can get rich in these small churches with money but the love for you and your talent and the respect would be overwhelming i love all of you and hope that some of you if not all would contact me hey we need your fellowship too. love in christ jesus; mark dunn

praise God for your website: i do have a concern. that is getting more southern gospel music to the masses, i feel that there are a number of people who enjoy the music but have no sorce of getting it. they do not go to christian book store, if the do they can not afford the prices, the big department stores do not have that wide of a selection. i have talked to the record houses such as daywind word and some of the other about this i sell at a flea market, but can not buy wholesale they say because i'm not brick and mortor, i also sell bluegrass and do good have lots of people asking for souther gospel. i do have a limited amount of gospel. the spreading of the gospel should not be hidered by brick and walls. these companies agreed with me we need to get the music out to the people. t have a way of doing it in my area. but according to the powers that be this is not the way. i love southern gospel music, have all my life. more people need to hear it. thanks for letting me use your sholder. phillip keep up the blessed work, God bless the USA
