Destiny

We all enjoy the stories of those who seem to “Hit the jackpot,” those who “Get the brass ring,” win the lottery or apparently have the “Luck of the Irish.” Perhaps these accounts reaffirm our hopes, dreams and ambitions that someday “Our ship will come in” or that we will have “Lady Luck” smile on us.

Just recently, I was reading a book that told the stories of ordinary people, just average folks like us, who made the headlines with unusual and remarkable circumstances that came their way. One example was of a man who won an all-expense paid, six-month cruise, of the Mediterranean. Just think, he was able to sail the waters of the world and be totally taken care of for six months. No worries, no yard work, no commuter traffic, no crime to rob his tranquil thoughts. What a deal!

Another example from the book was the story of the first man to walk in space and how he was chosen for that life-changing event, He was afforded a “Bird’s eye view” of Mother Earth as no one ever had before him. Now /that’s /a way to make history! He went where no one else had gone and did what no one else had done. The great thing about his success was that he was older than many others in the program were. However, age did not disqualify him from being chosen for this special space mission.

Later in the book, it told of a young man who was still in his teens that received the opportunity to pitch for his home team against the Giants. Though he had some minor league experience, he was thrust into the majors much sooner than even he expected. It was all because of the dire circumstances of his home team. They desperately needed this victory.

When all the other talent was evaluated, there was no one on their roster that had the type of arm and courage this youngster had. Would you believe, on short notice he went out and threw a “One hitter”? His spectacular performance was against their most hated rival, the Giants.

This hardy hurler became the talk of the town. Everyone went crazy over him. There were parties and parades with people shouting and celebrating in the streets long after the contest was concluded. Songs were even written about him. What luck this boy from the backwoods had that eventful day. It changed his life forever and ushered him on a fast track to wealth and fame.

I discovered as I continued reading that the fortunes of these people were not based on luck at all. Each of them realized their success because of one common denominator. They all had become intimate friends with God. This book, which details their stories, is called the Bible. It records the extraordinary lives of many others who beat the odds and made headlines with their accomplishments.

It was Noah who was spared the ravages of the flood and was kept safe in the Ark as it sailed the pregnant waters of the Mediterranean. Enoch was such a friend with God that he was transported through space and taken directly to Heaven. The shepherd-boy David, with one stone in his sling, slew the Philistine giant, Goliath. He won a major victory for Israel’s army.

Do you remember Jesus’ words in Matthew 6:33? He said the secret of doing something extraordinary, finding your destiny or defining your life’s purpose WAS NOT found in the pursuit of _these_ things. Real reward in life is found by seeking an intimate relationship with the King. When He is the focus of our pursuits, He will prosper us in the accomplishing of our purpose.

The essential ingredient in anyone’s life who desires to be more than a display of natural, musical talent is discovered in the biblical word, “anointing” (/chrio/, SC 5548). It means “to contact, smear, rub or to consecrate to an office” and represents the presence of the Holy Spirit for the _all-efficient means of enablement_. This somewhat mysterious word conveys that there is a spiritual element that transcends the human dimension and its capabilities. The word anointing describes the endorsement and enablement of God’s presence upon our life and efforts. This linkage between Deity and humanity will accomplish exponentially far more than what we can do in and of ourselves.

The examples used earlier in this article all pointed to ONE COMMONALITY. They did what they did because of the anointing of God upon their lives. As we develop our intimate friendship with God, He enables us through His anointing to say with Christ, “The Spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he hath anointed me to preach the gospel to the poor; he hath sent me to heal the brokenhearted, to preach deliverance to the captives, and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty them that are bruised, to preach the acceptable year of the Lord. (Luke 4:18, 19)

If you have been seeking how you can change your “luck” in life, come to Christ for direction. He will teach you how to become true friends with God. You will not need to depend upon a horseshoe, a rabbit’s foot, or some other good luck charm to find success and fulfillment. Your purpose will not come with a new bus, better equipment or a subscription the GQ magazine. It is the product of an intimate relationship with God through Jesus Christ.

Christ (“The Anointed One”) can change your life and help you find your destiny just as He helped these ordinary people. They learned how an ordinary person could do something extraordinary. It is called, “THE ANOINTING”. Try it; you’ll love it so much you will never want to function without it!

****A Personal Word to Our Readers from Dr. Frazier****

There are great insights to be derived from the study of the Greek New Testament. Each month I will endeavor to share a nugget of truth from the Book of Truth, God’s Eternal Word.

These will be concise and should not intrude into your time or opportunity to explore the richness of the vein from which they were extracted. That is for you and the Holy Spirit to excavate together. These nuggets are just to let you know where to begin the digging, if you so desire. They are NOT designed to be an exhaustive commentary providing all the answers on the subject. The Spirit will guide you in how deep to dig. The Greek will be presented in a way that is easy to understand (transliterated) and easy to verify (“SC” refers to Strong’s Concordance). With a little help, you can check the assayers report for yourself. So, pull out this shiny, new nugget and see where it leads you. Please feel free to share your questions, observations or insights with our readers and me.
