Write About Jesus

Phenomenal song writer Joel Lindsey turned us on to a great event about to happen on October 16, 17, and 18, 2003 in St Charles, MO. This conference is put together by Songwriter Sue Smith and her husband John. With a background in the education field, John was a high school principal, and Sue was an English teacher, the couple are emphasizing education for songwriters.

Joel Lindsey says that Write About Jesus is the most rewarding educational conference on songwriting that he has ever been a part of. The classes are "casual" in structure, commonly taught by two instructors, usually being one from the Publishing side and the other from the Songwriter side. This gives the students a wider view of any tropic they may be discussing. The setting is in open classes, meaning that there are several classes going on at once, allowing the student to attend the class that he or she feels is most appropriate to them.

Feeling that writing for only one genre is very limiting to the exposure of the songwriter, just about every genre of Christian music is represented at this conference.

Some of the topics covered, but not limited to, are:

* Basic Lyric and Melody
* Copyrighting
* I Can't Move to Nashville, Can I Still Be A Song Writer
* Approaching Publishers
* So, I'm Married To A Songwriter
* Collaborating on Songwriting - Co-writing
* Ideas and Images - How to Get Ideas
* What Makes A Great Song?

One of the favorites of the Conference is on Friday night and it's called Writers Night, where songwriters tell a little of what's behind the song, and then sing one song that has been a hit for them, and one song that has never been done before in public.

Southern Gospel representation this year will include Gerald Crabb, Joel Lindsey, Wayne Haun, Marty Funderburke, Kevin Stokes, and Brian Copeland.

If you are an aspiring songwriter, then you need to be at this Conference. It seems to me that this would be a great place to do some very important networking.

The cost is $250.00, which includes:

* 2 1/2 days of classes
* 6 meals
* Writers in the Round concert
* Workshop competition, including song critiques and prizes
* Workshop t-shirt
* Workshop notebook
* Networking Opportunities

    Thank you so much for helping us get the word out about Write About Jesus! Our mission is to inform, equip, advise, encourage, and inspire Christian songwriters. We try to do this in an affirming, warm atmosphere where every registrant is affirmed in the calling God has put on his or her life. I've been on the faculty of this workshop for the past three years, and I've been absolutely thrilled to see how the aspiring writers who come each year are getting better and better. And, with Gerald Crabb joining the faculty this year, a fantastic workshop is going to be even more fantastic. If you are serious about becoming a better songwriter, you can't afford to miss this worshop. I guarantee you'll love it!
