Are You Living In A Penthouse or a Shack?

I am sure many of you have started your New Year with some form of resolution. I think the sad part for some of us is we are so far gone we didn't even consider a resolution. As life gets us further and further away from normal human existence, we seem to mutate into electronic and calculated beings. The way we communicate has become so impersonal. I know the neighborly way is gone. If my neighbors knocked on the door and had baked me a pie my first thought would be, is "who paid them and what's in it?"

I find most people are focused on trying to be happy and content. They are fighting so hard to be at peace, they are making themselves miserable. As they fight this internal demon, they are getting older and grey, year after year. The other day I was putting on my shirt and out from the sleeve came my daddy's hands. I thought, "Have I already become a man? Did it go that fast?"

Life doesn't stop for any of us. And on our search to become more independent, wealthier, more plentiful, something is happening. Life! Life is passing us by and we are allowing ourselves to be filled with broken pieces, lost dreams, hopes, wishes and worlds of negative programming.

As a manager and promoter I take many hits and misses daily for my clients. The rollercoaster can be ugly and brutal. I find myself some nights, laying awake still trying to put the pieces of a deal back together, or finding a way to make things happen. I never say never. I never say I cant do it. I always find a way to win. I have always had a great beginning to my winning plan and a great ending. I pray and thank God for his favoritism and blessings to begin with, and I end with thanking him for his favoritism and blessings. How can you lose if your a believer and HE has made you a winner?

I wonder some days if my arteries look like a New York City street during rush hour, and if my brain looks like a huge trading day on Wall Street. That's the only way I can explain my inner drive and willingness to achieve my goals and to achieve His blessings in my work.

Let me share with you something that I have my artists do when they are full and crashing. If you take your mind and you cut it into a building. You make the bottom level the basement and the top the penthouse. As you begin to reload your building with life, joy, vitality and peace, you will begin to see where and what you do daily that helps you achieve your goals.

I had an artist that constantly used words and situations to disrespect himself. He would always say negative things about himself, "I am fat, I am stupid, those pictures make me look stupid" I realized he was living in the basement of his mind. He had no self esteem, he had no boundaries, no factors or plans that would help him reach the penthouse in his building.

Another artist never used words like "I know," "I will," "I can." He used words like "I think I can," "I will try," "maybe," "I am not sure." He allowed other artists to beat him to death. He allowed negative press to drive his decision making and artistic skills. As we sat down I explained to him, you need to mentally take a record of all the things you say and hear in the next few days. All things have a level in your mind. They create or tear down. If someone says, "You look stupid" that is definitely a basement word. If you say, "I cant do this. I am fat. I am a loser." You are staying on the bottom of your mind building. If someone says "you are great," or you say "I can do this," "I will do this." You are moving that mental elevator to the penthouse.

This may seem kind of silly. But, it actually helps us see and reach our potential goals. If we constantly allow ourselves and others to speak negative and keep us in the basement of our minds, we become miserable, sad and unproductive. As you begin to place the things you say and do, and the things other say and do to you, a process of shielding negative thoughts and allowing others to abuse you is forming.

Do and say things that are raising you to the top of your mind and world. Stop allowing yourself and others to attack you. Begin using and replacing negative words, begin stopping conversations that leave you the joke. Some of us are living life in the middle, we only react when something kicks us to the basement, or we only strive when something has kicked us to the penthouse. We need to always strive to protect our minds and lives. Always keep a positive outlook, live in the penthouse overlooking your life and dreams. Stop living in the middle of your life, stop making excuses for tomorrow. Live your best today. Start moving out of the basement of your minds. Pray for God to guide you and bless you. Thank him for your peace of mind and happiness today. And watch as your life starts rising closer to His heart and being.

God Bless your New Penthouse

May we all draw closer to HIM who knows the thoughts that HE thinks toward us. HE has not given us the spirit of fear but of power and love and a SOUND MIND!!!!!! Didn't one writer put it this way...When he was up or not so up HE BEHAVED HIMSELF?

This kind of thing sounds good. And on a certain level it is the truth. However, it seems to me that this helter-skelter success-driven roller coaster ride Rick seems to be on, and the entertainment industry tries to push us to, is part of the problem. Where is the rest and peace Jesus said he would give us? Where is the easy yoke and light burden Jesus promised? It certainly isn't in the entertainment industry that Rick is so attached to and so many of us want to be a part of.

TonyRush's avatar Bravo, bravo, bravo, Rick! Thank you for a much-needed article about positive mindset in the SGM industry.

When more Christians (and SGM artists) learn that they are creating their quality of life with their thoughts and language....there will be more people who start achieving the goals they're setting for themselves.

By the way, it says “Working Hard” over my picture.
That’s actually not true.  I rarely work hard.  smile
